Magüi's interview after winning Budapest 2003.

(Transcription of the radio programme La Brújula del Deporte on Onda Cero (22/04/2003))

Question: Magüi Serna, ten consecutive matches without losing and after this weekend’s win, you reach the top 40 in the ranking. Still a long way to go.

Answer: Yes, but well, the truth is that I’m very happy because getting two tournaments in two weeks isn’t that easy and I’m very happy with the way thigs are going for me.

Question: You have commented that you are very tired, that you have played many matches in the last weeks, but I suppose that you are ready and you are looking forward to going ahead.

Answer: Yeah, as I have already said, you forget the tiredness when it comes with wins beacuse you forget it and you think of how things are going for you.

Question: However, it seems the Spanish women’s tennis isn’t in its best moment.

Answer: No, well, the truth is that we have it very tough in Spain because the men have always done well and it seems they have forgotten a little bit the women’s tennis. But I think all of us are fighting to get the same things: getting titles and improve in the rankings.

Question: However, as you said, men are doing really well. Do you think you women can be in the same situation?

Answer: Well, as I said, I think it’s very difficult because there are surprises every week in men’s tennis, but we train and sacrifice everyday for that.

Question: Let’s see, Magüi, a wish.

Answer: ¿In tennis or...?

Question: Both for the same price.

Answer: In tennis, my goal in a short term is to be a seed in Roland Garros to avoid the strongest players in the first rounds, and in a personal level, I wish that my family is OK and to be healthy.

Question: Well, I hope that your dreams come true.

Answer: Many thanks.
