Serri and Dayzujeith

We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less a second chance. - Harrison Ford

So this is Adanuk Weyr... Dayzujeith grinned as she reappeared above the Weyr that was now her home. ...again.

"Shh..." Serri couldn't help worrying that someone had overheard her dragon. "I thought we agreed never to speak of that again. I can't believe we got away with it!" The rider and dragon pair that were flying beside them looked over at Serri, her voice having carried to them. Serri blushed and waved, signifying that she was okay and they could carry on.

Dayzujeith laughed, drawing attention back to herself. Now who's speaking of it? Speak in your mind rider-mine.

The other dragons can still hear you, can't they? Serri fiddled with the reins. Being a white, and the smallest dragon entereing Adanuk, Dayzujeith landed last.

As soon as the white was on the ground, she began looking around, bugging other dragons and driving Bronze-rider Mik'len, who was in charge of organizing the new recruits, crazy. Vekunth! Tell that shardin' white to keep to herself and stay in line! I'll get to her! The bronze smiled and communicated the message in a much softer tone.

Sorry. Dayzujeith hung her head and curled her tail around her back leg. I wasn't trying to be a problem.

What? Serri asked, remembering to speak in her mind.

That big bronze, Vekunth, told me I was causing problems. The sensitive dragon's feelings were hurt. I'm here ten seconds and I'm already causing problems.

Serri smiled. "You're just curious, love. You'll get used to things around here. I did, and I was even more out of place in a Weyr than you!"

Dayzujeith brightened immensly. Really? Will I get to meet all the people you told me about

Serri laughed. "You're so easy to please sometimes Dayzu."

Is that a bad thing? I'm just happy to be near you rider-mine! Dayzujeith nudged her rider with her head.

No, it's a wonderful thing. It's just surprising...sometimes... Serri stroked her lifemate's eye ridges.

You think I haven't matured...I still act like I do when I was a hatchling... Dayzu took on a surprisingly serious tone.

Serri was surprised that the white thought of that. I suppose...maybe...a little... Dayzujeith started to walke over to Veknuth and Mik'len, their turn to register having finally arrived.

I'll tell you a secret Serri. The white dragon's eyes whirled blue, knowing exactly what her rider meant. I could be more mature... The white walked underneath one of her larger golden cousins. The gold, startled by Dayzujeith, reared and bumped into a nearby bronze, who in turn smacked a blue with his tail. The white sat calmly in front of the bronze and his rider while chaos erupted behind her. ...but it's no fun.

Serri worried for a second what Mik'len would do to her, but her fears quickly left when she saw the shocked look on Mik'len's face. She tried not to laugh, but couldn't help snickering as she walked closer.

"Serri?" He asked, still amazed at how quickly his orderly line had become a mess of writhing dragons. "How...?"

"Could you just tell me where my weyr is Bronze-rider?" Serri smiled. "Dayzujeith's had a long day and we'd like to rest."

Mik'len pointed her in the right direction and sighed. "You mean give the rest of the Weyr a rest."

Dayzu laughed and nudged Serri. That's what she said.

Serri yawned. She'd been up the night before, watching the stars and trying to figure them out. She didn't bother looking where she was going and therefore walked right into a door. Tsuki cheeped and nipped at her ear. Giving her a warning a little too late.

"Thanks Tsuki." Serri rubbed her nose and left the corridor. Her sarcasm and bad mood both left her as she saw Dayzujeith leap from her ledge, swoop down into the Weyrbowl and land before her rider. It's not Tsuki's fault you're not paying attention to where you're going. C'mon. I want a bath and oil! Dayzu waited patiently all of three seconds before leaping into the air again, ignorant of the fact that her rider was only half-on.

Dayzu! Patience! Serri grabbed the saddle tightly, pulling herself all the way on. Tsuki laughed and rubbed his head against Serri's face as Dayzujeith betweened the lot of them...right into the lake.

Serri shivered and sneezed as she pulled herself out of the cold lake. "Dayzu, love, you're not dirty enough to need a full scrubbing. You could have let me stay dry."

Tsuki chirped loudly and angrily at Dayzujeith, shaking off his bronze hide. Serri smirked and wrung her hair out over the flit. He squaked at her and flew to a safe distance away from the hated water. Serri smiled and wiped her glasses. She laid down and stared at the clouds passing by, letting herself be splashed by her playful lifemate. "There was something funny about the stars last night...wish I'd thought to bring the star charts with me..."

I know what. The white happily continued her bath.

You do? What? Was it... "Upghf!" Serri's thought were wiped from her head as someone stepped on her stomach. The man who'd stepped on her fell on top of her, futher brusing her stomach. "Ugh..." Serri moaned as she opened her eyes to see her 'attacker'.

Serri, rider-mine, are you okay? Dayzujeith quickly leapt from the lake and landed beside the man, nearly knocking him sensless.

"Faranth's egg!" The man threw his arms over his head. "I've killed a dragon-rider!"

"I'm not dead." Serri moaned again and sat up. "Just bruised."

The man looked over at her, then looked closer. He seemed to recognize something about her... He's rather familiar too... Serri examined the man closer. He looks a lot like...

"Serri?" The man asked.

"Nabir?" Serri recognized her old friend. "Nabir!"

"Serri!" The quickly hugged. "I haven't seen you in...turns and turns!"

"I know! I missed you!" Serri couldn't believe she'd met up with her fellow apprentice again.

"What are you doing here?" Nabir still held her arms, almost refusing to believe that she was real.

Serri blushed. "Washing my dragon."

"Oh." Nabir accepted that for a minuted. "Your what?" The thought caught up with him.

So you remember me? Dayzujeith's eyes whirled blue as Serri finally acknowledged her lifemate again.

"Nabir, this is Dayzujeith. Dayzu, Nabir." Nabir bowed quickly and Dayzu nodded her head. "Why are you here Nabir?"

"You impressed!" Nabir hugged her again. "Congratulations!"

Tsuki began blinking back and forth from between. He only did that when something was wrong. "Thanks. Why are you here Nabir?"

"I heard you were Searched!" Nabir was still excited about the dragon.

I know what's wrong. Dayzu's eyes whirled blue and she sat down to watch her rider weasel the information out of her old friend.

"Nabir!" Serri was tempted to slap him.

"Oh yeah!" Nabir's eyes went wide with worry. "Thread!"

Serri ran to Dayzujeith and mounted, hepling Nabir on behind her. She dropped the Starcrafter off quickly in the Weyrbowl and went to join her wing, Dayzu having alerted the other dragons.

As they were preparing to fly, Serri realized two things. Love, how could you weren't overly excited to see Nabir? Usually you're exstatic to meet my old friends?

I already met him. Last night. He's the Weyrstarcrafter here.

How did you know that? Serri was shocked.

That Nabir was your old friend and Starcrafter here or that Thread was coming?

Serri sighed. Either or.

Dayzu grinnned to herself as she leapt into the air with the rest of her wing. I recognized Nabir from your descriptions of him and I asked some questions. I knew Thread was coming because you don't live with a Starcrafter without learning a few things about the stars.

Serri laughed. People could learn a lot from dragons. Dayzujeith was fooling around, pestering the others of her wing, still fighting Thread. Just not maturity.
