Myantonyth's voice screamed in her rider's mind. I can't find Celeste!!
Aterri swore under her breath and tried to restrain the injured man. The man took one look at his thread-scored body and began screaming and struggling again. Myan!! Aterri screamed with her mind. Find Media or Mala. They should know where Celeste is. Her white weryling nodded and dashed off in search of the Master Healer of Adanuk. Aterri cursed again as she examined the man's body. She searched her memory for anything she knew about him. It came back to her quickly.
This man was a herder. Thread had appeared suddenly and unexpectedly and he'd been caught in it. Tamika and Orzith had picked him up and dropped him here with her. Aterri quickly pushed the man back and tied his hands down. She hated to do it, but he was hysterical.
He could hurt himself, Aterri ducked a kicking leg. or me. She spun looking for her things. "Tetia!" She called to one of her firelizards. "Numbweed. Jenar, bandages. Serek...Omf!" She ran into the brown who was waiting for his orders. He chirped helpfully and hovered in front of her. She swated at him. "Get out of the way!" A loud crash echoed through the healing caverns and Aterri flinched. Tetia, with the numbweed, had collided with Jenar, with the bandages. Numbweed was all over the floor and her firelizards were screeching. Aterri swore loudly.
Myantonyth's voice resounded through Aterri's head and the smaller heads of her three pets. Get out! The firelizards disappeared. Aterri spared a second to look lovingly at her lifemate. Myantonyth smiled. Mala has sent for Celeste. She'll be here momentarily.
What would I do without you Myan? Aterri asked her lifemate as she dropped to her knees next to the broken jar of numbweed. She quickly wiped the numbweed up with bandages and threw them on the man's torso. He jerked slightly, but soon relaxed. Atteri spun and grabbed another bottle. A few drops from it and the herder was in dreamland. At that moment Celeste ran in, with her assistants, and took over. Aterri gladly retreated to the back of the room to watch Celeste work. She leaned back against the stone wall and felt sleepy.
Well no wonder! Myantonyth's voice woke her just before she nodded off. You're covered head to toe in numbweed! Can you even feel your hands?!?
Aterri looked around with a dazed look on her face. "Hands?" She murmured quietly and tried to make her eyes focus on them. They were covered in blood. Pieces of the glass jar had sliced her hands and blood was flowing freely down her arms. She looked at the blood with amused detachment. She couldn't feel anything, the numbweed covered the cuts.
Myantonyth creeled and entered the healing cavern, something she hadn't done since she was a hatchling. Luckily, she was a white and only a weryling. She fit inside, but barely.
"What the...?" One of Celeste's assistants asked. The young man turned to Aterri. "Aterri, you're still here? I thought Celeste relieved..." His voice died out as he saw her hands and the dazed look on her face. "Celeste! Celeste!"
Aterri remembered the voices getting faint and then calmly sliding to the floor.
Aterri? Aterri are you awake? Aterri smiled. Myantonyth's voice seemed like part of her dream. Serek's screeches however, did not. Aterri moaned and covered her face with her pillow. Serek, Jenar and Tetia continued their screeching. Emotions came to Aterri from the little firelizards. When her head stopped pounding enough to sort them out, she discovered they were apologizing. Aterri smiled and sat up. "Calm down you three! I'm not mad at you. Really." The three chirped and snuggled up to her. Aterri looked around. She was in a bed in the healing caverns. Myantonyth was seated right outside her window. "Why am I here?"
Myantonyth smiled. You sliced your hands to pieces on the jar of numbweed.
Aterri looked at her hands and found they were bandages. "Oh." She murmured softly. "How long have I been asleep?"
Almost the entire day.
"What?!?" Aterri jumped up, felt the world start to tilt and sat back down. "C'mon Myan. We gotta go."
The white gave her rider an odd look. Where?
"Weyrling lesson, of course!" Aterri added, slightly annoyed that the floor refused to stay put. It kept slipping out from under her feet.
Myantonyth smiled. We're excused today. The white realized her rider was more upset over this information then over the news that she'd sliced her hands. She sighed. Don't worry about it Terri. I got a better lesson today.
Aterri sighed and gave in to her lifemate. "What?"
Myantonyth smirked. Why they don't usually let Tetia, Jenar and Serek in the healing caverns.
Aterri laughed and laid back. "Okay. I'll give you that one." Aterri sighed. "We're gonna be some group aren't we?"
Myantonyth gave the draconic impression of raising an eyebrow. Why do you say that?
Aterri smiled and laid back. "Tetia, Jenar and Serek are learning how to help me in my healing, you know what to do in emergencies when I pass out, I'm honing my skills everyday. We're gonna be some group."
Myantonyth nodded. Yeah, we are.
Aterri watched her flitters preparing themselves for bed. Myantonyth curled up outside the window. "Now, we just need to organize this. Everyone needs their own jobs so we'll be more effective..." Aterri trailed off, she could hear Myantonyth laughling quietly at her. "What?"
You're going to be a healer Aterri.
"I don't see what's so funny about that."
Your plan. It hasn't changed. It's taken quite a few detours, but it's gonna end up right where you want it to. Right where it should be.
Aterri smiled. "Not quite, Myan. Before it was just a plan. Just a method to get what I thought I wanted. Now it's more."
Really? A hint of sarcasim was contained in the white's voice.
"Yeah." Aterri murmured and winced as the feeling began to return to her hands. "Now it's a learning process to get to where I'm supposed to be."
Myantonyth smiled.
