A Half Hour Before Sunrise

Angelina stood at the bowspirit of the Black Rose thinking over the last few weeks. Things hadn’t quite gone as planned but her father had always been fond of telling her that plans always went awry.

She smiled faintly at the thought of her deceased father. He had been a wonderful man full of spirit and vitality. If it weren’t for her rotten brother she would still have her father at her side. Captain Morgan Radcliff died too soon leaving his daughter responsibility she wasn’t ready for.

Her brother was going to pay and this treasure was just the way. It was going to pay for all the right people to listen and the wrong people to keep quiet. It was also the perfect way to entrap her brother. Her only problem was getting Captain Malcom Reynolds to tell her where that treasure was.

Mal was a stubborn man with a lot of hidden agendas that Angelina was all too aware of. She had spent many months with him and had learned all his little quirks. But then again he also knew her. Or so he thought.

She had changed a lot in the last few years. She had taken on a lot of responsibility and danger. She wasn’t the same stupid naïve girl she had once been.

“Captain.”

Angelina turned to look at her first mate. He closed his mouth and arched and eyebrow.

“Everything okay Captain?” he asked. He had been with Angelina long enough to know that her placid face meant she had been deep in thought about something that disturbed her greatly.

“Everything is fine Williams. Was there something you were going to tell me?”

“Yes Captain. Admiral Carter has asked to come aboard for the morning meal. He would have a private audience with you. He specifically asked that Captain Reynolds not be present.

Angelina squinted her eyes in thought, wondering what Carter wanted.

“Fine set up a meeting half an hour before sunrise.” She began to walk back to her cabin and called over her shoulder as an after thought, “And if he balks at the ‘ungodly hour’, tell him all our hours spent here are.”
