She sauntered into the library that served as an office, her hips swaying provocatively and her Patten leather pump heels clicking softly on the dark oak floors. She had one thing on her mind and only completing that task would placate her.
Her amber eyes scanned the room until her eyes fell on the object of her high priced affection.
He sat in a contemporary black leather reading chair that in her mind was in no way comfortable. He picked up a gold rimmed tumbler that held an extremely expensive and most fine Scottish brandy. Her lover’s favorite. And something he hated to be reminded of, his father’s favorite as well.
She knew he was tense just by the way he sat reclined in his chair and she knew just how to sooth him. She came up behind him and ever so gently skimmed her hands over his shoulders to wrap her arms lightly around his shoulders and body. She leaned in close to his ear letting her auburn hair fall over him just as he liked.
“Something I can help you with Lex?” she asked soothingly. He pulled her arms from his body and around to stand before him. She let his eyes roam over her lush curves and flushed with pleasure.
“I hope everything meets to your approval.”
“It always does.” He said lazily and pulled her into his lap. “How is it, Angelina, that you always seem to know when I need to be distracted?”
Angelina smiled and looked at Lex through smoky hooded eyes. “It’s a gift. All the women in my family have been quite proficient in keeping our men happy. I’m just the only one to make a profit out of it.”
He chuckled before gently pulling her to him and engaging her tongue in a fierce battle. She pulled away and settled more comfortably into Lex’s lap, laying her head against his shoulder listening to the resounding beat of his heart.
“Tell me what’s bothering you Lex.” She said quietly and unbuttoned his tailored blue cotton shirt a little more to slide her fingers in against the flesh of his chest.
He sighed deeply before answering. “I know Clark as a secret. I’ve come so close to figuring it out so many times and then the unexpected happens and my suspicions are completely proven false. He has some kind of power, something extraordinary. I also know that a few of Clark’s friends know his secret but no matter what I offer them they are completely loyal to him. For some reason he doesn’t think he can trust me.”
“Can you blame him Lex?” He scowled at her.
“You’re obsessed with meteor freaks and everyone in Smallville knows it even if they won’t say it out loud. They’re all afraid of you.”
“You don’t seem to be.”
“You don’t pay me to talk pretty unless we’re in bed. You aren’t exactly subtle in your desire to learn the mystery that is Clark Kent.
“Your constant experimentation on people affected by the meteor rocks and what can be done with those rocks has made Clark and his little gang of ‘Scoobys’ just a mite nervous. They’ll never say it but they’re afraid of you too.
“Have you ever thought that this quest of knowledge that borders on lunacy could someday be your end?”
He didn’t answer. The flames of the fire reflected in his eyes as he sipped the amber liquid in his glass. If Angelina didn’t know Lex’s own history with the meteor rocks she would be worried about the true fire raging inside the complex man she shared company with.
She knew him better than he thought. She made it a point to know all the facts about her clients before engaging in an agreement. She also took great pride I her ability to read into someone. It was that acquired skill that made her so good at what she did.
There was just one problem with her current agreement with her employer. Despite all Lex Luthor’s flaws and eccentricities, and there were many of those, she had fallen madly in love with him. She had kicked herself on many occasions for falling for a client but he was what Angelina had always wanted.
Strong, passionate, smart followed by many other enduring qualities but what enthralled her the most was his utter ruthlessness in everything he did. She supposed she had his father to thank for that.
She pulled herself from the comfort of his embrace. If Lex even got the slightest whiff of her affection for him he would dismiss her in an instant. She had been in his employ for the past four years. She wasn’t about to let her felling s get in the way.
“Stop sulking and come to bed. It’s snowing and the mansion is freezing. Besides, you could use a good stress releaser.” Angelina winked at him before leaving the room.
Lex smiled in spite of the turmoil going on inside of him. She really was very good at what she did. It was unfortunate that she had fallen in love with him. She was a very beautiful woman with a lot to offer. Her advice and insight was always very sound but she had become a liability.
He finished the remainder of his brandy. It was also unfortunate that he was his father’s son. As much as he would enjoy sleeping with Angelina one last time he was going to enjoy firing her in the morning.
He stood and stretched his legs a moment. Fiji was nice this time of year. A two day vacation of R ‘n’ R was just what he needed to get his latest failure at Luthorcorp out of his system.
Maybe he would have Angelina close the project for him and then dismiss her. That was the perfect out for him having her fire that entire division. He already had enough people mad at him and wanting his head on a plate. Redirecting the scorn was best right now.
Unfortunately what Lex understood even less than he thought was the woman he now strode off to engage in a night of lustful passion. As much as she loved him and would do anything to ensure his happiness and wellbeing, her devotion was going to turn just as quickly as he was going to fire her. Her fiery nature was in her blood and it wasn’t very forgiving. Her passion would turn to revenge, her love to hate and her desire to be with him to and intense and all consuming desire to see him dead.
Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.
