Fires of the Heart

Plot

Zandra I walking in a field before her wedding watching the sun rise.
She hears fighting happening in the village.
She hides, fearful for her life.
The fighting ends and she creeps back to the destroyed village only to find her parents dead and her brother, Adrian, and her fiancé, Cedric, missing.
Zandra is wandering through her home when Therius shows up and takes her prisoner.
Zandra is taken back to Therius’s fortress along with other women and children from the village.
She is settled in, in private rooms because Therius wants her company all to himself.
At dinner the first night Zandra tries to kill Therius and fails.
Therius sees Zandra’s skills again and decides that her training must start immediately.
He’s afraid that if he waits any longer that he will turn his back and she will kill him.
He will amuse himself and see how well she can defend herself against him when she least expects it.
Training starts and Zandra is willing to train only to defend herself from Therius’s unwanted attention, which she has discovered is almost impossible to escape.
Therius and Zandra befriend each other although still slightly hostile to the other.
Slowly start to confide in each other.
Therius gives Zandra full run of his village after training practice in the mornings.
Zandra befriends the shop wives.
Their husbands have been warned to be cautious around this beauty.
Therius’s 28 birthday comes and he gives gifts/bonuses to all his men and a large spotted gray and white horse to Zandra.
Therius and Zandra ride everyday before sunset.
Zandra feeling that she has complete trust in Therius, tries to escape with her new horse and is caught and brought back to Therius.
Zandra is locked in her room for a month and is only allowed out for training practice at which point she is trained by Therius’s captain instead of himself.
Zandra is finally let out only to find herself strictly watched by guards everywhere she goes.
Zandra is visiting the tavern owner’s wife when two off duty fortress guards who are eating in a corner, disgusting the raid on her village four months ago.
Zandra stops interacting in her conversation with the tavern wife to listen to the guards conversation.
They can’t understand why Therius keeps such a close eye on Zandra when all the other women have been dispersed into the village.
Discussion turns more to those that escaped.
The guards talk about how there could be an uprising with the local villages who have been raided.
It is rumoured that a young man who looks to be Zandra’s image leads the rebels.
Before the conversation could go any further, Zandra’s guards rose form their posts at the bar and immediately silenced the blubbering guards.
Her guards noticed her quiet observant behaviour and realizing why take Zandra back to the fortress.
Security in the village and especially in the fortress is increased.
Zandra realizes that what she heard is true and hope is put back into her heart.
Therius and Zandra get close emotionally and Zandra is frightened by Therius’s kindness and husbandly gestures.
Two months after the rumours were leaked to Zandra, in the middle of the night she is re-kidnapped from her bed.
She is angered by this and puts up a fight.
When she manages to get the knife from her boot, she seriously injurs her kidnapper.
Adrian, shows himself to be her kidnapper and she rushes him to the rebels with his directions into the forest.
Zandra is reunited with Cedric, her fiancé.
A celebration is held in Zandra’s honour.
The night progress smoothly until the wine and mead have taken effect and everyone moves off to their beds.
Cedric expects Zandra to join him in his bed and she refuses.
A fight breaks out between the two of them.
He accuses her of being use goods and she retaliated by slapping him and runs away from his rage.
Back the day of Zandra’s re-kidnapping.
Therius discovers Zandra is gone and is angered that his fortress was breached.
He never thinks for one minute that Zandra would leave him on her own accord.
Therius questions all his men about the night in question and finds that they were all drugged.
Therius discovers that he was betrayed by his own man.
He tracks his man down to the rebel village to find that he is passing information to Cedric.
Therius sends in a spy of his own to gain the trust of Cedric’s bed mate.
She tells all and Therius’s spy comes back to him full of answers.
Cedric was behind the killing of his friends, which prompted his attack on Zandra’s village in the first place.
Zandra is doing her laundry in at the creek when she is abducted yet a third time by Therius’s men.
Therius tells her all he knows and she argues, denying everything she has been told about her fiancé.
Therius tells her to go back to the village and either tell Cedric of his whereabouts or not, it didn’t matter, what he said was true.
Zandra goes back to the village questioning what Therius has told her.
She does some investigation of her own and finds what Therius says is true.
She thinks on what Therius has said and what she found out.
She’s not sure that she wants to believe any of it. Should she tell Cedric about Therius or should she go back to Therius and fight against Cedric?
Zandra goes to her best friend Haden.
She explains her situation, excluding Therius’s involvment in the whole situation.
He thinks that she should follow her heart and what ever she decides he says that he will follow her.
Zandra realizes that her heart is calling out for Therius and it has been ever since she was brought back to the new village in the forest.
Zandra sneaks away to see Therius and tells him her decision.
Therius is happy but he tells Zandra that she has to go back and keep him updated through his other spy about how Cedric is wanting to go about his attack on Therius’s fortress.
Zandra agrees to spy for Therius getting close to Cedric again but not too close.
Zandra makes up with Cedric but still refuses to sleep with him sticking to what she originally said that she is a virgin and wants to be one on her wedding night.
Cedric reluctantly agrees.
Zandra is continuously passing information about the planned day of attack on Therius’s fortress.
Four days before the planned attack, Therius and his men attack the forest village killing no one.
The men are rounded up and Cedric and Adrian are singled out to explain themselves.
Cedric refuses to talk and sizes Zandra, threatening her life if he isn’t given a horse to escape with.
Cedric is given a horse and he takes Zandra as collateral for his escape that he won’t be followed or he will kill Zandra.
Therius agrees not wanting Zandra hurt.
He sees in Cedric a younger, angry version of himself and knows it would be a big mistake to take his threats as idle.
Soon after Zandra and Cedric have disappeared Therius rallies his men and Zandra’s villagers and they ride after Cedric and the men who were still loyal to him.
Cedric explains his full intentions and plans to Zandra.
Hearing Cedric’s confession to starting everything Zandra is enraged and knocks Cedric form his horse.
Zandra injures Cedric and a hand-to-hand battle is somewhat fought. Zandra stays out of Cedric’s range at all times like Therius taught her.
Just as Cedric is coming in for the kill Therius arrives and Cedric and his men are quickly disposed of leaving Therius and Zandra to kiss and make up.
Zandra and Therius marry and all of Zandra’s villagers join Therius’s village and everyone settles into their new and peaceful lives.
