Snowy Owl Pyrographed on BC Maple Burl approx 18" X 14" <------------------- Canadian Loon Pyrographed on Local Yellow Birch Burl measuring approx 11" X 14" with Oil Washes ----------------> |
~ BASSWOOD ~ These examples are all done on Basswood... either 'with the grain' plaques like the Elephants to the left..or the ' crosscut' plaques with bark on like the Elephant to the right. Basswood is the most sought after wood for Pyrography/Woodburning. It has a 'clear' grain and light colour...lending itself ideally to Pyrography. I like to use Colour washes with my burnings. It not only depicts Wildllife more accurately and realistically...but it also serves to 're-enforce' the burn lines...making them more permanent and lightfast than they would be without. From light washes.. to intense colour with numerous washes... its up to you... Lynda |
