It was stormy the morning we left. I rode on one small motorcycle,
just behind the driver and with a guy behind me holding our luggage.
Lyn and Waway were on another motorcycle. We reached speeds up to
35 mph, while a gentle rain fell. Surviving that, we took the 15
minute boat ride from Boracay Island to Katiclan on Panay Island.
From there, we had a 2 hour "luxury tour bus" ride, which turned
out to be a Mitsubishi minivan stuffed with about 15 people with
every available cubbyhole filled with luggage.
Upon arriving at the Kalibo airport, I had a case of the runs,
which meant I had to use the less than desirable bathroom facilities.
(They have improved this airport since then.)
A quicker, but less safe alternative would be to fly in and out
of Katiclan, thus saving the "luxury tour bus" ride. A couple
of smaller airlines fly this route and maybe they don't crash
as often as they used to.
