Everything began in 1993 when Nick, Alex and Howie all responded to a newspaper ad, calling for talent. They had all met before at acting auditions and stuff and began singing aca pella together. They responded to a Trans Continental ad placed by Lou Pearlman, who would later become their executive producer. The three plus Phenix Stone and another all tryed out for the group and made it. Soon they realized that Phenix and the other guy weren't working out so the three moved on alone. They spread the word around that thet were looking for more members and a friend of Kevin Richardson's got word. He convinced Kevin to audition and obviously Kev got the part. Although they had four they wanted a fifth to make the harmonies richer so Kevin suggested his cousin Brian. He called and got Brian out of history class to give him the good news and the next day Brain was on a flight down to Orlando. He tryed out in the stands at Sea World, singing aca pella. Right there and then both Lou and the boys knew they found their man. And that was the start to the Backstreet Boys.
Now that they had all the members, like any band, they needed a name. Backstreet market was a market place during the day and a popular teen hangout so that was where they got the insperation for that.
