General Rabbit Information

Classes & Weights

Senior Does & Bucks - 6 months of age or over, and not weighing over 2 1/2 lbs. The ideal weight for a Senior Netherland Dwarf is 2 lbs.

Junior Does & Bucks - Under 6 months of age, and not weighing over 2 lbs. Juniors that weigh in over 2 lbs. can only be shown in the Senior Class.

Break Down Of Points

Head

  • 15 Points: Large and of a size balance with the rest of the body. Generally it is bigger in bucks than in does. When viewed from any direction, the shape should be round. The arc from the base of the ear around the nose should not show a break when in profile. The head should set as high and close on the shoulders as possible.
     
  • Faults - Animals with a pointed head, flat or Roman nose, and lack of roundness to the head are faulted. It is also a fault if the animals head is too big, too small, does not balance with the body and ears, or lacks roundness.

    Body

  • 35 Points : The body should be short and compact, shoulders should be the same width as the hindquarters. The shoulders should have good depth. The width and depth of the body should balance. The top line should show the depth of shoulders is carried through to a deep, well filled, rounded hindquarter.
     
  • Faults - Animals with pinched, undercut or protruding hips are faults. Animals with narrow shoulders, long rangy body type, or not showing good depth in the shoulders or width equal to the hindquarters are faulted.

    Ears

  • 15 Points: The ears should be well set on top of the head, short, well furred, erect and of good substance with a strong base. The tips are to be rounded, and the ideal length is 2 inches. The ears should balance with the head and body.
     
  • Faults - It is a fault if the animals ears are carried in a wide "V", or scissored. If the ears are thin, bowed, or lacking fur it is also a fault. Animals with ears that lie flat are faulted.
     
  • Disqualifications - Animals with ears over 2 1/2 inches in length.

    Eyes

  • 5 Points: The eyes should be bold, bright and round. The eye color should match that of the individual color variety.

    Tail

  • 0 Points: The tail should be well carried, well furred and straight.

    Fur

  • 10 Points: The fur should have lots of life and glossiness. As well as a soft texture, density to it, and prime.

     
  • Faults - Fur that is in poor texture, thin, or too long. Animals that are molting, in a broken coat, or have faded fur will be faulted. A fly back type of fur is undesirable.

    Color

  • 15 Points: Eye color and fur should be as described under each variety.

     
  • Disqualifications - Color varieties that have white spots, or too many white hairs. White or himilayan animals are disqualified when there is any foreign colored spots.
