'MY NASCAR Notes'
A really good friend of mine recently lost her Dad.
Without going into too much detail,
He was a car owner down south at a local short track.
Recently his car came in 2nd, he was there & was brought to tears stating-
"...damn that's a fast car [his] I just know I won't be around to see it win."
Well, he's in the winner circle today, God bless 'm...
Recent postings to my column from the 2K season...
DJ finally got his 1st Rockingham win! FORD wrapped up the manufacturer title. What a heck of a season !!! Tony Stewart did a sweep at Dover this season. Mark had a great finish there(6th) after breaking a rod on his transmission leaving him with only high gear after several lengthy stops. Speaking of Martin...His 200th (last) Busch race was at Homestead.
RUSTY had been tearing up the tracks of late, along with 8 poles! Matt Kenseth won the Coca-Cola 600!? Wow- 1st rookie to do so!
Well- allright! who's next Michael Waltrip? That would be cool... Actually, if we have any more 1st time winners, I think it will be Skinner!
Way to go 'Little E', 73 more & you'll catch dad!
The NASCAR family mourns the loss of Adam & Lee Petty, Winston Cup Champion, winner of the inaugural Daytona 500 & Great Grandfather to Adam- who raced in his 1st WC event only days prior.Also we mourn for Kenny Irwin & Tony Roper.
MARK MARTIN won the race @ Martins ville his 32nd WC win. Rusty survived all of the bumping & bangin' @ Bristol to win his 50th & 53rd career Winston Cup races [swept Bristol for 2000]!!!... Ward Burton got his 1st win since Oct of '95. Congratulations to him & the Davis'! ... MARK MARTIN won yet another BGN race [record]-He's was shooting for 50, but came up a few short.
Congrats to Robert Yates & Dale Jarrett
for winning the 1st points race of the new millenium (Daytona)!
We saw a Wallace front row @ Martinsville with Rusty on the Pole for his 500th NASCAR WC start! Although RUSTY dominated the race & battled back from being down 2 laps; it was MARK MARTIN who won the race, his 32nd WC win... That makes it a record 8th race with a different winner to start the season. Another record was the amount of cautions @ Martinsville. 'Little E' was the 1st 2 time winner of 2000-- 73 more & you'll catch dad!
Texas Terry Labonte was on the pole, his 1st one in nearly 4 years! Geoffry Bodine was @ the track & stated that he was planning on racing in California @ the end of April & wound up losing his ride, I think he wasn't given a fair chance! Steve- Parked his Chevy in the # 1 starting position for The Bristol race; the 1st pole for Dale Earnhardt as a car owner! ... MARK MARTIN won yet another BGN race [record]-He's shooting for 50! It's official, Elliott will be driving a Dodge for Everenham in 2001. The car # will be 9 (borrowed from the Mellings).
I had a great time in DAYTONA even if the 500 was a sleeper, at least gordon didn't win!!
Read the article on ESPN.COM where I was interviewed about SpeedWeek 2K!!!! Whew what an experience! I got all of Bodines truck wreck on my camcorder. See my Racing Photo Gallery to see pictures I took @ DAYTONA.

NASCAR tried something new @ Martinsville( since nobody other than LEE PETTY in 1959 has won from the back-stretch-pits) The pits now start in turn 3 & go to the end of turn 1-with a speed limit of {buckle your chinstraps} 35 mph!!
The Rumor has was confirmed--Bill Elliott has signed with Ray Everenham
to drive a DODGE next year;

FAST FACTS:
Prior to Darlington, Gordon had gone 8 races without a top 10 finish & had an avg. finishing spot of 24th! Did you know...NASCAR gave Chevy teams 2'' on the front air dam so they will have more front end downforce.
