A story of sidewalks, alas, some fifty five years late.

These photos were taken in March of 2006.
1. There appears to be some sort of brick sign/reader board right on the street close to the main front entrance to the school. I do not know just exactly what it might be, but I can tell you that there was a huge tree in that area when we were there. I do not see the flagpole in front of the school, but I assume it is still there. I was on "flag duty" for a while when I was in grade school, which meant that I and another kid went out there every afternoon and lowered and folded the flag. I can remember my parents reminding me every day not to let the flag touch the ground.
2. The oak tree just behind the 519 mailbox was a sore spot between my father and me for many years. I guess that some things in life are better left unsaid.
3. The sidewalk certainly would have been a big deal for my mother. What sidewalks did exist on Avery Street were all hex type pavers and not "slab" type things.

The oak tree out by the mailbox at 519 (photos 2 and 3 above) was removed in September of 2008. When we were there, curbside garbage pick-up and recycling did not exist. My friend scooped up some of the shavings, put them in a zip-lock bag and sent them to me (below).
