Intermediate/advanced bead making class focusing on late period beads, stringers, latticinno, and can decoration.

Patchwork Really is Period!

Caitlin has been quilting for over 30 years and has been researching period quilting methods for about 15 years. The class will be a hands on class that teaches how to piece geometric shapes into a period design fabric. This fabric can then be made into a pouch. Anyone who purchases the instructors book ($20) will have the material fee waived.

Double Face Tablet Weave

Already knowing how to tablet weave is a prerequisite. Have looms pre-warped with 2 cards of border color, two cards of background color, 12 cards threaded with background color in A & B and a contrasting color in C & D, two more cards of background color and two more cards of border color. 15th Century Punte in Aria - Materials will be provided to complete the project. Recommended supplies: Scissors and a thimble if you're used to using one. Teenagers and adults are welcome. Kits are available for $1.00 donation or students may bring their own size 10 crochet cotton and white sewing thread.

Monmouth Caps were quite popular during the 15th through the 17th century. Participants will make a custom set of knitting needles, cover the basics of knitting in the round, and then make a Monmouth cap. Beginning knitting skills are required for this class. All materials will be provided.

Finer Points of Tournament Heralding - It’s More Than Just Yellin’

More concise techniques and ideas in tournament heralding for multi-field or higher level tournaments. Concepts include vocalizations, alternate forms of address and field courtesy.

"Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" Or, do they?

This class will examine the efforts of the Holy Office of the Inquisition to suppress heresy, Protestantism, and Judaism in Spain between 1478 and the end of the SCA period. Placing the Inquisition within the context of Catholic Europe at the onset of the Renaissance, we will also discuss the causes and effects of the Inquisition. NOTE This presentation will be neither antagonistic nor sympathetic toward the Church of Rome's efforts to enforce heterodoxy in Spain.

This class limited to people ages 21 or older ONLY
Spanish vintners claim that brandywine distillation was rediscovered by Spanish alchemists in the early 13th century. The technique of boiling sweet wine was brought to Spain by the invading Muslims, but lost for a time. This presentation will examine the histories of brandy and tobacco in Spain in the medieval period, discuss Spanish brandies, and indulge in the sensual pleasures of drink and smoke. Pipeweed, cigars, and Spanish brandy will be provided. Bring your chair, and your favorite pipe. Enjoy the evening fire, a fine drink or two (or three....) and a bit of fine leaf (and maybe, just maybe, learn something about two of the great pleasures of life.)
