GO AWAY KIDS, YOU BOTHER ME

Cruising main street -- Pickens, Greenville, Walhalla, et al
Barricades in place, blue lights flashing,
Weekend nights in the ole hometown.

Throw away kids, undesirable kids of desire,
Go away kid, don't bother me,
We don't want your kind here,
Get out of the house,
Get off the streets,
Get out of my bar, you'll cause me troubles.
You're to young to do that,
You're to old to do this.
They'll sell drugs and sex,
Do other bad things on our Main Street.
They'll drive away our late night business,
They'll turn around in unused lots.

Most undesirable kids of desire,
Unwanted, throw away kids.
Is it no wonder why they say,
"I want to die, so it won't hurt anymore."
FOR KIDS SAKE, INDEED !
You cities of hypocrisy !
Better they do their dirty deeds
In dark alleys, sleezy motels, back of bars,
Off our streets, out of sight, out of mind,
That's what you're really telling them.

Condemn the lot because of a few,
Make examples of them all.
Drive them away into big city blues,
To survive by dumpster dives, pimps, and crack.
Let them suffer real world woes
For their longing to see and be seen,
to touch and be touched.

You cities of hypocrisy !
Block off your Main Streets
Have your own festivals of life,
Grownup, adult versions of cruising.
FOR KIDS SAKE, INDEED !
May your children leave your precious streets,
May your future business long to be seen and touched.
But most of all,
May your children be loved and wanted in other homes.
