1. About the date for the peace in schools event. I think it's just a matter of choosing one and going with it. Some people tend to make most any event or date into whatever they want to anyway. This kind of falls into symbolism debates, the same symbol means different things to different people and for different reasons. The swatska by the way is from ancient India history, means peace, tranquility, harmony. It probably still means that to most East Indians too.
Taking back that date can be one of the objectives. But it's just as important, or more so, to have the peace in schools event. Between now and then some good reason to change it may come to light anyway. Once during the '60s a saying was, "Pick up a plan and go with, just to see how far it goes."
2. About the peace in schools event. What will be some of the activities? It's general scheme? It's specific objectives? Promote peace, anti-violence rallys at individual schools? State and/or national rallys? A general promotion of mutual respect and tolerence for each person or group's teenlife style? Become more politically active for anti-guns, more security? Locating and distributing information about youth problems and how to solve them? Promoting organization of a "Peace Club" in all the schools? All of the above? ...? ...? ...?
3. I know this one isnt pleasant to think of or talk about but reality is reality and probability is probability. What kind of organized responses to future school shootings can be developed by youth groups such as this club? Something better than what will usually happen, another go around with gun control, tv and movie violence, blaming parents, society, this and that.
4. About statistics and probability... there's the fatal catagory and physical assualt catagory. In the fatal catagory there has been about 20-30 a year recently. That means there's only 20-30 youths out of the 40-50 million who become the really violent ones. I guess what I'm thinking is that the youth violence in schools problem isnt like they are hundreds or thousands of them. There are that many in the assualt catagory and maybe it's the 20-30 that progress from there into the fatal catagory.
Anyway, this is leading to thinking of how does one go about finding the 20-30 among the 40-50 million? Or better yet, how does one change the school environment, teenlife, youth attitude so that the 20-30 dont need to be found?
