~ Dreams Realized ~

When I was young I saw things as I wanted them to be
I thought about all the things that could be done
The future was as unlimited as far as I could see
It felt good to dream and believe that the world could be won

As I got older I began to realize that the world was full of compromise
Those dreams that I had were starting to come with a price
Every year older seemed harder and brought a new surprise
It seemed that everything was becoming more of a sacrifice


When I got old and my dreams were gone I realized that life was not fair
I had to give up and face reality
I had settled and compromised and never took the dare
I know now that at no time did I really control my life it had controlled me

But now as my life gets short and I look back at what I have done
I wonder about the paths not taken but I look at my children and grandchildren
Maybe those dares could not have been won
But with my family grown and on their own I realize now that I did win
