Author's Note: I think this is the first Buffy/Slayers crossover on the Net, but the Net's a big place, and if you can find me one I sure as heck want to see it! ;0D The characters from BTVS are copyright to Joss Wheedon and some other people. I don't own 'em, don't receive payment, yadda-yadda. Although one of these days I vow to become a writer on the BTVS script staff...

It took an hour to chalk in all the proper symbols on the floor; another hour was spent going over the finer details of the spell. When it was finally done the four of them took their places at the North, South, East and West points of the magic circle, and then linked hands in preparation to start the chant.

"Everybody ready?" Amelia asked brightly. There were general noises of agreement from all four participants, even Gourry, who finally seemed to have a clue as to what was going on. It was hard not to: they'd been discussing this for weeks, and now it looked like Zelgadis had finally found his cure. If they were lucky, this was all they'd need to do to make him human again. Presuming, of course, that they survived the spell.
Zel cast an apprehensive glance at Lina from beneath a spiky tuft of wire hair.
"I hope this works," he murmured, taking her hand. She gave it a reassuring squeeze as she replied:
"Don't worry. It will."
"Right, let's do this thing," said Willow, in a firm tone.
Giles lit the last candle, then quickly reached out to take one of Willow's hands and one of Xander's. A few nervous looks went around the circle as they steeled themselves to begin--summoning a Vampire Slayer long-dead was not an easy process. Or a pleasant one, considering that they'd had to trek back to the burnt-out Sunnydale High library.
"I hope this works," Buffy said softly, reaching for Willow's free hand.
"Don't worry. It will."

Almost the moment Lina began the chant, the candles went out. A wind began to rake across the circle, first whispering, then howling as it picked up strength. Dimly, already absorbed in her magic, she could feel Zel's fingers tighten around hers.
Just hold on, she thought. This will work... it's got to...
The floor of the old temple shook, and started to crack. Amelia let out a squeal of fright as shadows began to gather at the centre of the circle, pooling into solid darkness.

Giles's voice faltered as the wind grew stronger. The candles guttered; two went out. Willow picked up the chant, trying to encourage him.
There was a faint tremor beneath the library floor, an ominous groaning as a nearby bookcase shuddered and splintered. Ruined pages of burnt books began to whip past the four in the circle, and the room grew darker.
This has to work, Buffy thought desperately. Please, God, let this work.

Lina found herself shouting the spell; the noise in the temple was rapidly approaching deafening, and now both Gourry and Amelia were whimpering loudly as the dark cloud inside the circle began to swirl and grow.
Just a few more minutes, Lina thought. Just a few more...
And then, quite suddenly, there was a spark of light somewhere in the solid darkness.

Buffy stared.
The spark flickered for a moment, then grew to an orb of brightness --then a tiny globe of green and blue, spinning wildly as it grew bigger against the dark. It almost looked like a small, brilliant world.
Her lips shaped a silent "Wow" as it hovered, suspended for a single instant, before her face.
And then, abruptly, it began to twirl crazily, blurring--tilting--growing--until it filled her vision; there was another moment before the black took over, coming forward in a wave to drown her.
