2001 Ticonderoga Open

On May 26, 2001, Kristy, Mike, Dave and myself went to Fort Ticonderoga for an épée tournament.  This tournament was different from most as it was set outside.  The fencing strips were set up in the fort's parade grounds.  The grounds were only dirt covered so things got a little dusty at times.  The fort was still open to normal visitors so we had plenty of spectators and I am sure they were more than  little surprised to see lots of people sword fighting.

Here I (far side) am in a pool bout.  My opponent is Viveka Fox.  It wa sclose but she beat me 5-4.  I was 27th after pools.
Here is Kristy (left) in one of her pool bouts.  She wound up breaking her épéeduring the course of the day.
Here is Dave (right) in one of his pool bouts.  Dave was in my pool and for some strange reason actually beat me.  Dave was ranked 11th after pools but injured his ankle so he finished in 22nd.
Here is Mike (black pants) in a pool bout.
Here is Kristy (right) in her D.E. bout.  They had an extra women's event this year so after losing her D.E. she went and fenced another D.E. there.
Here is Dave (left) in his D.E. bout. Dave hurt his ankle so he wound up losing and finishing in 22nd place.  In my second D.E. I avenged him by beating this guy.
Here I (right) am in my first D.E.  Yes that is a little kid I am fencing.  She was ranked 6th after pools so don't feel too bad for her. I wound up finishing in 6th place.
Here is Mike (black pants) in his D.E. bout. Mike wound up finishing in 4th place.
Here are the four of us at the end of the day.  From left to right are: Kristy, me, Mike, and Dave.  Due to a threat of rain teh turnout was smaller than normal (30 soemthing) and the D.E.s were shortened to 10  points except for the finals which were 15.  Everything wrapped up just as the rain started.
