2000 Ticonderoga Open

On May 27, 2000, Kristy, Mike and myself went to Fort Ticonderoga for an épée tournament.  This tournament was different from most as it was set outside.  The fencing strips were set up in the fort's parade grounds.  The grounds were only dirt covered so things got a little dusty at times.  The fort was still open to normal visitors so we had plenty of spectators and I am sure they were more than  little surprised to see lots of people sword fighting.

Here I (far side) am in a pool bout.  This is the only pool bout I won.  I had a tough pool. The top two finishers in the tournament came from my pool.  I missed making the Direct Eliminations (D.E) by one.  They took 40. I was ranked 41.
Here is Kristy (black pants) in one of her pool bouts.  Becca Reger is directing.  Kristy won two of her pool bouts so she made it to the D.E.s.  She wound up being ranked 37th.
Here is Kristy (black pants) in a pool bout against Becca Reger.  Kristy won the bout.  Mike has a hard time beating Becca and almost always loses to her in competition.
Here is Mike (black pants) in a pool bout.  For the second year in a row Mike was fortunate enough to have his pool on the grass.  Mike made the D.E.s as well.
Here is Kristy (black pants) in her D.E. bout. She started off good, 5-2, but then her opponent discovered her weakness, being charged, and she wound up losing.
Here is Mike (black pants) in his D.E. bout. Mike mounted a late charge but it wasn't enough and he lost.
Here the three of us after being eliminated.  From left to right are: me, Kristy, and Mike.  Even though we were all elimated early we had to stay around till the end since they were using our strip equipment.  We got to see some good fencing while we waited though and everyone had a good time.
