Isabel pulled her fingers through her hair and then knocked on the apartment door in front of her. After waiting for a couple of seconds a shorter blond smiled at her. “Hi Isabel”

“Hi Tess” Isabel said and handed her a pile of books. “They forced me to give this to you since you were still *sick*. So where’s the big bad warrior?”

“I guess you’re referring to Maria and she’s in the bedroom sleeping” Tess answered and let the other girl inside and closed the door behind.

“You can’t stay at home pretending to be sick much longer you know”

Tess sighed and nodded. “I know but it’s just…this is not her home, she wasn’t born her as we were. Everything’s so new”

Isabel tilted her head to the side and gave her friend a smile. “You’ve gotten close to her but you still can’t let your grades drop because of her. So I’ve got a suggestion. Now in the beginning so we can stop her from drawing too much attention to her we could take ‘shifts’ being with her. Each day, someone stays home from school…that way she won’t end up killing anyone”

“I guess that’s okay” Tess said with a shrug. “You talked to the others about this?”

“No, I thought we could do it tonight at the Crashdown” Isabel answered. “Anyway, I gotta go. Crashdown 20.00 P.M.”

Tess nodded and walked to the living room as she heard Isabel close the door behind her and walk down the corridor. Just as she was about to sit down in the couch she saw Maria leaning against the wall, arms crossed over her chest and with a stern face. “I don’t need a baby sitter”

“I know you don’t” Tess answered and flipped on the TV. “But we don’t need any unnecessary attention towards us, we’re not exactly normal you know”

“Whatever” Maria mumbled and walked back into the bedroom.

Crashdown café, 20.00 P.M.

“What IS that?” Maria asked and looked at Alex who was eating.

“A hamburger” Alex laughed. “You’ve never had one?

“No and I don’t think I wanna either” she said with a grimace and tapped her fingers to the table showing she was annoyed. Michael, Tess, Maria, Liz, Alex and Kyle were waiting for Max and Isabel to arrive. After another five minutes the two siblings entered the café.

“Finally” Michael said. “Now we can get started. I’ve had a bad feeling about this for some time now and I think the skins are close”

Isabel nodded slowly. “I’ve had dreams about the skins…but it wasn’t really completely skins either, it was something worse”

“Skins?” Maria asked and gave them a confused look. “What the hell is a skin?”

“They’re our enemies” Max answered shortly and Maria began playing with the ice cubes in her glass instead. “For now all we can do is wait and keep on going like usual”

“I told Tess before that she couldn’t stay home any longer so I thought we could all be with Maria one day each” Isabel said and looked at everyone.

Maria’s green eyes grew slim. “I don’t need a baby sitter”

“This isn’t about baby sitting, I explained it before” Tess said.

“Don’t give me that crap Tessa, I don’t need anyone watching me…I don’t need anyone at all” Maria snapped clutching her fists.

“You don’t?” Michael asked in a pissed tone. “Then tell me how the hell you’re planning on getting back to your home or where you’re gonna live until you do find a way? You’re really ungrateful, you know that?”

Maria quickly rose to her feet, staring straight into Michael’s brown eyes. “I’ve managed on my own before and I can do it again even on a foreign planet…and who are you to talk about ungrateful? Not once have you thanked me for saving all of your lives from that demon. I don’t care since it’s what I do and always will do until the end of time or until someone chops my fucking head off but don’t come to me and talk about being ungrateful”

“Maria calm down” Isabel pleaded. “We’re thankful you saved us but it’s just as you said, earth is a foreign planet for you and there’s a lot of new things for you to get used to. We don’t need any more attention turned towards us and we want you to stay. Besides, you could be really useful when the skins arrive”

Maria looked at Isabel and shook her head, pissed off as hell. She got out of the booth and gave them all an icy glare. “You think I’ll be *useful*? I’ll tell you have useful I’ll be…not at all. Nice arguments for making me calm down Isabel, but what should I expect? You don’t have the slightest clue what it’s like to be me and I’m sure as hell not gonna help you in some silly war”

“Silly war?” Michael yelled and got up in front of her. “It’s to save our fucking planet”

“Yeah? And I’m fighting for saving the entire fucking universe but as I said, it’s what I was born to do. You’ve been living here in this friendly little town all your lives; wanna know what I’ve done? I’ve killed, slaughtered…whatever you wanna call it. The fact is, that when you were still in kindergarten I was out hunting demons”

“Maria, please” Liz said, not really sure what to do.

“No, I don’t wanna be involved in your alien business. I CAN’T get involved, you have no idea what you’re asking for…just leave me the hell alone” Maria said and stormed out of the café before anyone could stop her.
