Fate, Reason and Destiny - Chapter 10

Sunny sat in her room for a moment, and leaned her head against the wall. Why was life so confusing? Never in her life had she imagined… well, she had dreamed, but that was different! Ever since she was a child, she had wanted a life like this one. A man to love, a man who loves her… didn’t everyone want that? Yet now that she had it… it was… different. Not what she had had in mind after all. She sighed. Life had never been this confusing before. She had been the girl no one noticed. The girl who wanted male friends…

Sunny suddenly bolted upright from the bed, and jumped up. No. She would not sit here. She had to… had to… she paused for a moment.

What was she to do with her life?

The days went by quickly. She spent a lot of time with Akira, as he was the only person she really knew. He was nice to her, really sweet as well. And she could not help but find him… attractive. It was October now, and almost Halloween. The school was celebrating it by having a small dance. Everybody was allowed to go, and the best thing was, it was free.

“Kitsune-chan," came a soft voice.

Sunny turned to see Akira standing there with a slight smile on his face. He was dressed in the school uniform, and Sunny smiled back. There was something about him, the way he was always so nice to her, the way he always tried to make her laugh…

“Nani, Akira-kun?” She was used to call him Akira-kun now. It was almost like she had always called him that.

He grinned. “Are you going to the dance two weeks from now?” he asked.

Sunny frowned for a moment. “I don’t know.” She sighed. “I never really celebrated Halloween, and I have nothing to wear….”

Akira grinned at her. “Don’t worry, you’ll figure something out.” He walked towards her, and Sunny inhaled that slight musty smell of deodorant and… and masculinity.

“I guess I am. Why, are you going?” she asked.

He grinned at her.

“Hai.”
“What will you be going as?” she asked. It was a masked dance. She had always wanted to go to one of them before. But alas, they didn’t hold things like that in her old school.

He smiled a secretive smile. “I’m not telling.”

Now Sunny was a very curious person. he grinned at him, a grin full of determination…

And bugged him the whole trip home.

Sunny looked down at her outfit with a small smile. It had taken her ages to find a perfect Halloween outfit. She looked at herself in the mirror, and smiled in satisfaction. She did not look half bad. Dressed in scarlet dress, the skirt was full with a darker maroon colored sash around her waist. It was figure hugging, pushing in and pushing up at the right places. The neckline was low and embroidered with a simple darker red fringe. The sleeves were long and bell like, as it flared near her hands. At the ends of the skirt, sleeves, and even the neckline, it was lined with white lace. On her hands, she wore nothing except for a simple silver ring on her left hand ring finger. Her hair was down and had been straightened for the dance. She wore a simple pearl chain around her neck, and pearl earrings Akira’s aunt had lent her. She was short, yet the full skirt and her heels gave her more height. The dress made her look slender, and the neckline made her look as if she did have boobs. The scarlet color made her look pale, and her hair darker then usual. Her eyes gleamed green with contacts, and her lips had been carefully painted a deep red as well. She reached for her mask. It only covered the top half of her face, and it was scarlet feathers. Her green eyes peered through, and Sunny winked at her reflection.

She thought she would end up looking trampy, yet she… did not. She looked mysterious, bewitching…

/I wish it were Halloween every day/… she thought to herself.

Grinning, she pulled on a long denim jacket she owned which went down to her legs, covering up most of her outfit. At the sound of the bell, she walked down to see Hikoichi waiting for her. She frowned.

“Hikoichi, where’s Akira-kun?”

He blushed. “He told me to pick you up… said he didn’t want you to see him before the dance." Hikoichi was dressed up as a big brown dog, and Sunny couldn’t help but giggle.

“Stubborn baka,” she muttered.

Hikoichi laughed, and they walked towards school in a friendly silence.

By the time they entered the gymnasium, it was packed with people dressed up. There were vampires, weerewolves, a few Cinderellas, and even a Frankenstein or two. She looked around and took off her coat. Where was Akira?

She looked towards the stage where a band was performing, and smiled. Heading towards a seat, she sat down and her smile dropped. She remembered dances… she was always the only one who was left sitting, watching the others dance. She looked away, feeling remorse come up in floods.

“My lady…” came a soft voice. Sunny looked up to see a tall man standing before her. He was dressed up black trousers, a black tunic-like top, a large hat with a scarlet feather and a mask. Sunny looked into his eyes for a moment, and could not recognize him until he smiled, showing the familiar dimple.

“Akira-kun,” she whispered, causing him to grin even more.
“How did you guess?”

Sunny chuckled.

“I can recognize your smile anywhere,” she said.

Akira chuckled at that. Suddenly the band stopped playing at soft music went on. He bowed at her, and looked up. “Care to dance?”

Sunny could not help but thank her lucky stars. They started off on a slow waltz, and Sunny looked at him, surprised. “You know how to dance the waltz?”

He smiled. “There’s a lot about me you don’t know, Kitsune-chan, if you’d only try to find out.”

His eyes seemed to melt then, causing Sunny to lose her breath.

The dance had been great; the whole night had been great. Sunny was walking home with Akira when the stopped at her door. She paused, and smiled at Akira.

“Would you like to come in?” she asked.

He nodded.

They walked inside. His aunt was not in, having gone to spend the night with a couple of her friends. Sunny shrugged out of her coat and looked behind her.

“Want something to drink?” she asked.
“Water's fine.”

Sunny nodded. Walking over to the fridge to get the bottle of water out, she heard him move. As she closed the fridge, she suddenly stiffened when she felt two arms go around her waist. She leaned back, and felt his breath against her ear.

“Akira… kun?” she said softly, hesitantly.

He held her for a moment, and they just stood like that for a moment. He sighed suddenly.

“I’m sorry Kistune-chan… I don’t know… don’t know what came over me.”

He said softly. He smiled.

“I’m going to go, Kitsune-chan, before I embarrass myself any more.”

Sunny watched him leave, and could not help but let tears fall down her face.
