Fate, Reason, and Destiny - Chapter 4

The bus was waiting for them 7 in the morning. Carrying two bags -in late autumn, you have to dress in a lot of clothes!- she let out a satisfied sigh before choosing a seat near the window. Looking out for a moment, she stifled a yawn. What was with these people and waking up early?!

The bus was soon full, and Rukawa had yet to arrive. Haruko was sitting next to a friend of hers, yet Sunny knew the same question was in her mind.

Where was Rukawa?

As the doors sighed and closed, they saw a familiar figure racing towards them. The bus driver paused for a moment, and opened the doors again, letting in a exhausted looking blue-eyed boy. Carrying a single bag, he looked around and saw all the seats were taken. Sighing, he took the seat next to Sunny, and looked out the window for a second.

“Rukawa Kaede! It's 8 o'clock and you made us late for the destination!” their enraged teacher yelled.

Rukawa just ignored him.

The bus ride would take a long time; they were to arrive at 3, but because of Rukawa, at 4 instead. Sunny stretched for a moment, and pulled off her jacket. The heater was on, and it was getting hot. Plumping it up as a pillow, she placed it against the window. Unbuttoning her shirt so that she was only wearing her half sleeved pink shirt, she yawned once more before falling asleep.

She was woken up by the sounds of giggling, and almost jolted up when she realized her head was on a very comfortable shoulder. Feeling a weight on her head, she kept her eyes closed, yet strained her ears to listen to the conversation.

Deciding she had had enough, she said in a soft voice.

“I do not drool, so why are you staring at me?”

The girls in front of her paused to stare at her, and started to giggle nervously. Slipping her head off the shoulder, she looked curiously to see Rukawa watching her with cool blue eyes. Yet he looked as if he himself had just woken up.

She wondered how she had fallen asleep on his shoulder.

A few hours later

She was sent into a room with Haruko, a small very quaint Japanese room with a bathroom and rolled up mattresses to use at night. She smiled at Haruko. “Well, what do we have first?”

She frowned. “Dinner, then Orientation.”

**Orientation night**

The teams were split into two, depending on where their names were on the register. Sakuragi and his Gundam were put together, and so was Haruko. Sunny on the other hand, was stuck with Rukawa and his brigade.

It was a quiet trip as they made their way around the beach. There was a plot of woods growing near it, and they made their way near it.

“So its southeast four steps, north four steps, and um…”

Yet before anyone could reply, there was a sudden clash of lightening, and the whole sky seemed to rip into two. The rain poured down, and she watched as the others ran towards the resort, screaming. She stood there, and wondered for a second why it wasn’t snowing. The rain was blistering cold, yet she could only stand there.

“Into the woods.” He said.

She turned, surprised, and followed. They made their way under a tree, where with its thick leaves, the rain didn’t seem to penetrate as much. Climbing onto a low branch, they made their way onto the third one before sighing.
It was cold, and as she felt the rain chill her to the very bones, she couldn’t help but shiver. Dressed in a pair of jeans, T shirt and a jacket, she had presumed that so early in winter, it couldn’t be that cold.

Why was she always so wrong?

As she sat there for a moment, shivering, she felt something warm land on her shoulders, and turned with surprise to see Rukawa without his jacket, and instead in a long sleeved black shirt. Pulling the jacket around herself, she moved towards him.

“Come on, I don’t want you to catch a cold because of me. Akagi will kill me!” she said with a smile. Shifting over, she pulled off the jacket and put it around both of them. “Come, the rain must stop soon…”

The rain did stop soon, and they found themselves answering a lot of questions from others. They had gone searching for them you see, but hadn’t thought about looking in the woods.
As she was helped down by a couple of students, she turned to see Rukawa ignoring her. -as usual- She smiled for a moment, and as she walked past him, whispered.

“Arigatou.”
