Lines from Oz
The Poetry of Brian Langley
RHYMES
I have a rhyming dictionary
And in it I do find
A host of words I've never known.
It almost blows my mind
There's nearly eighty thousand words
And each one, I can see
Has other words that end the same
Like bee and free and tree
Now words like this I know quite well,
Short words like true and knew
And longer words I also know
Bamboo and misconstrue
But there are many many words
I've never seen before
Ephemeron, undecagon
Gnathonic and algor
I've no idea what they mean,
I really do not care.
For I will never use such words
As tolan, squill or quare
And so I'll stay with words I know
Each time I pen a verse
So those who read my rhyming writ
Will find no cause to curse
And by this means I hope to sell
My poems by the score
And this will pay for pen and ink
So I can write some more
