Lines from Oz
The Poetry of Brian Langley
The inspiration for this poem came from a friend who is terrified of "things" that are in the sea. It has a similar theme to "Bitey Things"
A Dangerous Place
There's jelly fishes 'neath the waves,
Moray eels that live in caves.
Poisonous cone shells here and there
And sharks I'm told are everywhere.
There's many other nasties too,
Just waiting there for me and you.
Ten foot sea snakes swimming round.
And huge big manta rays are found
Out there in the cold and wet.
And while you're thinking, don't forget
There could be giant squid as well
And octopuses too that dwell
Under rocks beneath the sea.
And barracouta swimming free
With teeth like needles, sharp and thin.
There's also things that live within
The rock pools all along the beaches.
At least a hundred little creatures
Swimming round or in the mud.
I know there's some will suck my blood.
A dangerous place is that there sea.
It's where I have no wish to be.
I'm not stupid, I'm no fool.
I'll do my swimming in the pool.
