My Springer Breeding Philosophy

I have owned English Springer Spaniels for almost twenty years now.  I am trying to breed a dog that is good to look at, a pleasure to live with and structurally sound.  All breeding stock have Orothopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) ratings.  OFA rates hip x-rays for signs of hip dysplasia (where the ball and socket joint do not fit propertly).  Springers can have hereditary eye diseases that range from no effect on vision to blinding.  All my breeding stock are checked annually by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist and all puppies are eye check prior to sale.  Since there are only one or two "show propsects" per litter, most puppies are companion animals for families.  This is why I try to breed a dog that is "livable".
