Called to Love through the Gospel of John and Revelation 1. Chapter Seven?s key idea is that as Christians we are called to love one another and the entire world community. This concept is aptly summarized in the book, ?to love as Jesus loves means to love others without expecting anything in return. It is a love that excludes no one and includes everyone-a love that can be released only by being shared.? 2. Another important attribute of the Gospel of John is how it helps to define who Jesus is. It contains seven best known ?I am statements.? These statements really help Christians understand who Jesus is. It was also very helpful to understand the context in which the Book of Revelations was written. It also helped to know what the various symbols meant. Without this information, it is very difficult to understand this book of the gospel. 3. This image captures the chapter: 4. One question that I have from this chapter is how should the Book of Revelations be read in contemporary times? I do not think it should be read as some type of apocalyptic event that happen in the future. Instead, I think if it is understood in an historical context, the lessons it presents are applicable to everyday life today. It shows that God can triumph over evil. Although there is a lot of evil in the world, many times other people acting on their convictions instilled by God are able to stop this evil. |
