Breast Cancer

Every year in the United Kingdom 41.00 women will be affected by breast cancer and  it is estimated that more than 10,00 will die.  It's incidence is increasing particularly in the 25 - 45 year old age group. Although breast cancer is viewed as a women's disease men can get breast cancer too though it is very rare and affects around 300 men a year.

In the United States 211,00 cases of breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year. 1,600 of these will be men. Seventy per cent of all breast cancers are found through breast self-exams and all lumps are detectable by touch.  Regular mammograms and monthly breast self-exams are recommended. Eight out of ten breast lumps are not cancerous so if you find one don't panic.  Consult with your doctor.
When breast cancer is found early, the five year survival rate is 96% which is very good news. In America over two million breast cancer survivors are still alive.

Testicular and Prostate Cancer

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men in America and is found mostly between the ages of fifteen and forty. But due to denial and embarrassment it's the least mentioned and diagnosed. Yet the American Cancer Society estimates that about 7,600 men are diagnosed and around 400 men die every year. Self examinations are recommended to identify dangerous growths early when the chance for successful treatment is highest.
Prostate cancer is highly treatable when it is diagnosed and caught early. So make sure you consult your doctor after any signs that might make you suspect you have Prostate Cancer. For example, a doctor should be consulted if you experience any of the following: weak or interrupted flow of urine, frequent or difficulty urinating, blood in the urine, pain in the back, hips, or pelvis, or painful ejaculation. These symptoms may indicate that you have Prostate Cancer.

Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer is a very serious health issue in the US, about 27,000 people are diagnosed with it, while the same number of people die from the disease. Pancreatic cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths, and are usually found in men at the age of 65 or higher.

Pancreatic Cancer, unlike many cancers, is relatively slow in the growth process, so those affected by it may not notice its appearance for many years. In fact, it is unlikely that you'll directly die from the effects of Pancreatic Cancer, rather with it.
As long as Pancreatic Cancer is treated relatively early the outlook for it being cured is relatively high.

Colon Cancer

Colon cancer is the most common type of cancer. The colon is a part of the large intestine, in the first six feet of it. Colon cancer is a malignant tumor that grows in the tissue walls of the colon, which are known as polyps. Polyps can range in size, from the very small, to the extremely large. And, as the polyp grows in size, the chance of it becoming cancerous increases. Keep in mind, however, that even though one of four people gets polyps, most never turn out to be cancerous. As with all the other cancers early detection is very important.
