UnPlanned Love

Chapter 4

I sighed as I pushed back the covers and lowered my feet to the floor. What little bit of sleep I had got wasn't helping me much this morning. Thank you for summer holidays. I climbed from the bed and followed the noise. It was Becca "cooking" in the kitchen. What she called cooking anyway. Rattle Rattle bang shit, Rattle bang bang fuck. I walked in just as she finished a chorus.

"Oh shit that burns!"

"Well no shit sherlock, pans are usually pretty hot when they come from the oven."

"Bite me you Martha Stewart wanna be." She replied looking over her shoulder, "I was trying to be nice and actually cook us some breakfast."

"No don't stop, I just don't want to me the blame for any bodily injury you might stumble into." I sat down in the chair and waited for her to give up. It never took long.

"Oh hell screw it. Where ya wanna go eat?" She dropped a rarely used oven mitt on the counter and sat down beside me.

"I'm not hungry. I need to get home and check my messages. Mom will freak if I don't call her back."

"Okay now your going to have to eat sometime so I'll bring over Chinese tonight and we will watch a movie." I nodded and stood to get dressed.

"Lizzy?"

"Yeah." I turned back to her.

"It will get better sweetie, I promise."

"I know." I smiled at her and walked from the kitchen. Did I really know? I wasn't so sure.

As I unlocked my front door I heard someone talking on the answering machine, "talk to you then. Bye." I didn't recognize the voice so I waited until it cleared and hit rewind.

"Hi Liz. It's Nick." My purse hit the floor and I stood staring at the machine, "I'm sorry we had to leave so early. We had some engagements that we could not get out of and I- I mean we didn't want to wake you. I'll try and call you back later. So talk to you then. Bye." I heard the machine click and felt my heart lighten just a bit. Maybe it would be okay.

My spirits were lifted, but I still ached. I wished they had woke me before they left. It might not have hurt so badly if they had. I jumped as the phone rang.

"Hello." I tried not to sound too anxious.

"Hi girl you sound better." I felt my mood slip a bit.

"Hi Becca."

"Well good lord what am I chopped liver?"

"I'm sorry. I was just hoping it would be someone else."

"Who?"

"Nick left a message on my machine this morning and he said he would call back." I was beginning to wonder if I had gotten my hopes up for nothing.

"Oh sweetie that's wonderful!" I could hear the worry in Becca's voice too, "I'm on my way. Okay?"

"Okay I'll see you when you get here."
