how it all started....

We started building and launching model rockets over Spring Break 1999, after having watched the movie "October Sky". We purchased an Estes Starter Kit # 1403 with an Alpha III rocket (here's a link to purchase one on-line, if interested) at a local hardware store. This is a good basic starter kit. Kim and Dad built it in a morning, then Dad, Kim & Sarah went to the "launch site" (the open space between our middle school and junior high; notice the idle school busses in the background). On the pad and ready for first launch, 4/3/99:
