USS Mariano G. Vallejo (SSBN 658) Home page

Named after the great Californio General. The submarine I served on from 1981 to 1985. One of two United States nuclear fleet ballistic missile submarines (now decommissioned) named after Hispanic heroes. The other one was USS SIMON BOLIVAR (SSBN 641).

An organization dedicated to perpetuating the memory of the men who fought for the Union cause.

Outnumbered two to one, a force of Californio Lancers under Major Andres Pico defeated a heavily armed force of Americans under General Stephen Kearny.  Not surprisingly, the Americans claimed a victory.
