Okay, lemme guess... you've NEVER heard of a 24-hour comic, right?
Well, this clever chap who has generated many more pages than I have, by the name of
Scott McCloud invented the thing. He wanted to prove to a fellow comics pro, Steven R. Bissette, by name, that a comics artist could conceivably crank out an entire comic booklet in one single day, if he or she applied themselves to the task, and didn't think too much about making it 'just so'. And they both succeeded in proving the theory. Many others, pro and amateur alike, have taken shots at it. Scott has posted the results of a number of them, and linked to many more. Go take a look. It's at his website, under Inventions. Read about the Dare, and maybe consider it yourself. Don't think. Just do it.

Away, the above is a six pager that has to go down as a failure, because I tried, but six pages was all I could crank out. Technical failure. I started that back in 99. I wasn't really drawing regularly, and had never attempted anything like it before, and so, I was bound to fail. I started another some months later, but that one didn't even get one page finished. I'll hunt it down again and post it here as well, for posterity's sake.

The latest attempt, by my reckoning, is a sucess, even if it is only pencilled, and not inked or coloured, which I can also do, and probably would have, if I could work it in, there. In fact, I actually have begun inking it, and I will actually redraw the entire exercise on another occasion and do a full-colour version, just for the record. But none of those efforts can be called 24 hour comics. This can, and is. I hope you like it.

Footnote: Technically, this could still be disqualified, because I have since redone the lettering, for legibility purposes. I would have left it intact, but it seemed pointless. So I have since replaced the original post with the newly updated version, with computer lettering attached. This is not to say that I don't still think of it as 24-your comics... but it's a personal thing. By the end of 24 hours, I was pretty ragged, and my lettering showed that. I should have known better, and should have done the lettering first. I knew my format. But I was in a hurry, so this is what I get. Anyway, it's legible, now, so even if I'm disqualified, I still accomplished something cool. So go look, already!
Curiosity #1: The most prominent image on page one of my original comic has a similar iamge to one used near the end of the latest. The first was about finding my soulmate, and the latest is about going home to her. The thing is, the recurring image was coincidental, and I only noticed it after I placed it here. It's a funny old world, isn't it?
