D The Windows 50 x 60 cm (19.5" x 23.5") each, oil on canvas, 1990. |
A series of three paintings depicting the circumstances in a room of newly wed couple. In painting A, the dusk was approaching with twilight sky in rather red color at the background. An earthenware flask and a cup were waiting impatiently for the moments to come. Then the window was closed at painting B, during the nighttime with red nuance all around symbolizing a warm climate of the newly wed couple making love. When the morning came in painting C, a greeting card appeared in the window while the sky relieved in blue. |
There is an interesting story behind these three paintings. In 1989, the painter worked as a sales representative for Amex cards at the American Express with a boss named Bill. In 1988, the painter obtained an idea to draw a building that shaped like a gate. of the ancient kingdoms in Indonesia. Later on in 1990, an idea came to the painter’s mind to make these paintings with windows on it. Therefore, to express the painter’s astonishment to successful hard works of computer experts, the painter would like to sell these paintings in a price suitable with those rare moments. The important message behind these paintings is regarding positive thinking. If you see these paintings using negative thinking, mixed with negative accusations, you could easily think of it as rather dirty pictures, as it is about a first night of a newly married couple. However, if you use a positive thinking, you could see how these paintings, produced in 1990 with windows as its main feature, grew along with the increasing popularity of Windows, the world famous computer operating system. In other words, these paintings reflecting the positive results of switching negative thinking, restraining the passion, and turning it into positive energy to produce useful things, therefore to become useful to others. Moreover, the painter did produce these paintings without doing any negative actions instead merely based on inspiring moments after experiencing several times of failures to get married. Though, of course, the skeptics might still accuse the painters with negative thinking, because that is what this world is all about, always contains different kind of thinking. |
