Larry's
Memorial Page
Larry Dee Murrish Jr.
(Sept 18, 1964-July 4, 1998)
This Memorial
Page is Dedicated In Loving Memory To Our Son, Larry.
Thanks
and much love to his brother Bill for putting it together
for us!
Larry was 33 years old
when he died in a tragic Jeep accident
at our cabin in NC. Larry
loved life to the fullest. I am so thankful he
did so many things that
he loved doing in his short
life. His first love
was the Sea and his second was the mountains. Larry
started surfing at a
very young age, he even became a certified Scuba
Diver before age 13.
After Larry graduated he joined the Coast Guard and
was active duty from
May 1985 till 1991. He then got out and went into
the Coast Guard Reserve.
There was even a time where they didn't have a
billet for him, but he
loved it so much he worked without pay for
awhile. He went to College
for Auto Cad Drafting and then went to work
for an Engineering Company.
He did his Coast Guard Duty once a month on
the weekends at Port
Canaveral, FL.
The last time I saw my
son alive was at the Coast Guard
station on June 27th,
1998. I had taken him the keys to our cabin
and to the jeep as he
was leaving the next day after getting
off duty for a much needed
vacation. He had wanted me to go
up with him, but I said
I couldn't since I had just got back from
there and hated to leave
his step dad again so soon. ( I would like to
add that Larry didn't
like the word step dad, he thought of
Joe as his second Dad,
and they shared a very close friendship)
Oh how I wish I would
of went up with him, he may still be
living today! Larry loved
the Sea so much that when my husband
and I went up to NC get
Larry we had him cremated and brought
him back to FL for 2
different Memorials. One at
the same Funeral Chapel
where we had his Granny's service.
Larry was very dedicated
to his Granny all of his life. He even
took her and I on a 3
week trip, from FL to NC on to IL to visit
family and then on to
NE, we drove by the hospital and I pointed up
to the room where he
was born in Kearney, NE. He
was born in the same
room his father Larry D Murrish, Sr was
born in. Then we went
on to Las Vegas and then on to visit my
niece and Larry's special
cousin LeeNan in CA. They shared a
very close relationship.
I am so thankful for the Memories of that last
trip with my Dear Mom
and Precious Son!
The Coast Guard did an
Honor Guard Service on July 11th, and
then on July 26th, 1998
the Coast Guard took our family out to
Sea to do a Sea Burial,
with a service by Larry's Master Chief
Glen Lashley. They played
the music the Taps and fired 3 rifle
shots. Dolphins appeared
on our way out to Sea and again on
our way back in. I felt
as if Larry was with me at that moment,
saying I'm where I love
to be, thanks Mom!
Larry was involved in Make A Wish Foundation. And every
Christmas the past few
years of his life, he sponsored a needy
family with clothes,
food and toys for the children. He was such
a caring young man. We
knew he was loved by people but we
were overwhelmed at his
Funeral. It seated 150 people, and it
turned out to be standing
room only all the way out to the lobby.
I'm not too good with this computer thing, when my Mom passed away
on May 2, 1997, Larry
showed up at my door on
Mother's Day with a computer
and setup. He said Mom I know how
lonely you're going to
be without Granny, so this will help
keep you busy, I will
teach you how to go on the net and surf
and get recipes and other
things you like to do. Little did I know
that a year later my
Son would be gone. It was on his computer
that I found some wonderful
sites to help me. I would like to Thank
Maxine Urton with Mothers
With Angels and Sonya Marvel with My Mother
Is A Survivor and Lois
Mickelson at In Memory of Carol. These sites have
been such a great help
to me.
Thank You for reading
my Son's story and please sign the guest
book and add any comments
so I'll know you visited, and I may
have his brother add
something for me from time to time.
Sincerely, Larry's Mom
