MIDDLE EAST

The collapse of Sharon’s era prepares a new war headed by US and Israel

Article retrieved from the Luta Operária newspaper # 119, January/06

The removal of the disgusting Ariel Sharon, thanks to a cerebral hemorrhage, makes the political scenery of force correlation among the Kadima, the Labor Party and the Likud inside the Zionist regime, temporarily cloudy right before the elections.

THE DISPUTE INSIDE THE ZIONIST REGIME TO DEFINE WHO WILL
CONDUCT THE IMPERIALIST OFFENSIVENESS IN THE REGION

The Kadima (To Advance) is the favorite party for the up coming elections in Israel. It was recently created by Sharon who broke up with the Likud exactly when the majority of the party diverged from his strategy to leave the Gaza area. Sharon took with himself important figures of the Zionist regime such as the vice premier minister Ehud Olmert, the defense minister Shaul Mofaz and the interior defense service ex-director Avi Dichter. A fraction of the Labor Party controlled by Shimon Peres also moved towards Sharon’s new group. Peres broke up with the party, in which he used to play as a historical leader, after being defeated in the internal elections by Amir Peretz, the leader of the Histadruth trade union central. Gaza’s retreat is a maneuver planned by Sharon who intended to confiscate thousands of land hectares in more strategic regions of the Palestinian territory. While 8.500 settlers were retreated from Gaza, many other dependencies were built for exactly 30.000 more people in the West Bank. Simultaneously, Sharon accelerated the construction of the 620km of separation wall that encloses and divides the West Bank. This way, he isolates 242.000 Palestinians (10% of its total population) in the military zone between the Israeli border and the west side of the wall. In the month that followed the Gaza’s retreat, the Zionist militia killed 30 Palestinians and realized a thousand incursions in the west Bank. One of Sharon’s advisors, Dov Weisglass, affirmed that the Gaza’s retreat was a plan articulated in order to freeze the “piece map” that was designed by US. With or without Sharon, the general strategy to make unavailable the formation of a Palestinian State, with minimum coherence, with territorial continuity and economical viability, is kept without any alterations.

However, Iran, not Palestine, became the center of the Zionist electoral debates. A month before falling into coma, Sharon ordered his army force to prepare air attacks with enriched uranium over all of the Iranian zones (Times, London, 12/11/05).” Two days before, the Israeli defense minister, Shaul Mofaz, affirmed that, considering Tehran nuclear plans, Tel Aviv “could not contemplate diplomatic negotiations, but will prepare to take other solutions (the Journey, 12/10/05).”

Benjamin Netanyahu, Likud´s leader and premier minister candidate, declared that in case Sharon did not act against Iran, “after 2006´s March elections when I’ll take charge of the Israeli new government, we will do the same thing that we did in the past against Saddam(Times, 12/11/05).” In June of 1981, Israel bombed Osirak´s nuclear reactor.

The Labor Party, who is behind the Kadima and in front of the Likud in the electoral polls, expressed the same positions as expressed by the other two parties, in relation to a new war against Iran. They diverge only on the dates. According to the periodical newspaper Haaretz, a Labor Party’s instrument, “Israel should go ahead preparing itself on a silent and secure manner_ not only as an electoral dispute (Haaretz, 12/6/05).”  In addition, they also defended that it is more prudent to go to the war after tensioning to the maximum the adversary through multilateral pressures by the Atomic Energy International Agency and by approving sanctions on the United Nations Security Council. Both organizations endorsed the Israeli “preventing military action”.

Among the so called Bush’s government new conservatives, his vice-president, Dick Cheney, supports unconditionally a unilateral Israeli military attack. While other sectors of the White House, such as Rumsfeld and Rice, clearly, support the European diplomacy of a “forced breaking down” alternative in order to justify a new war. The European diplomacy is captained by German, France and Gram Britain. Us and Israel, creator and creature, mutually influence themselves. For the Bush’s administration, the war against Iran will serve to switch the attentions from its defeat in Iraq. The big capital finance speculators put their hopes in the same tactic as a recipe against the economical crisis predicted for 2007.  The “Intercom.com is offering an attractive contract for the future, betting that the United States or Israel will bomb Iran counting from now until the end of March of 2007. Iran, not Iraq, may be the political and economical big news in 2006 (…) Even if the internal income is raised; the financial markets may still challenge the economical data. It will only be different if stable and democratic governments install themselves in the Middle East (“Is Iran the cause of the inverted yield curve? Kevin Hasset, 01/03/2006).” If there is political and economical pressure by US to attack Iran, the Zionist lobbyists reinforce the idea by showing its forces in the Iraq government.

Coordinated by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the Zionist formal and informal organizations work by instructing the media, financial, pension founds and fundamentalist Christian institutions how to think. This way, they align in their own favor the majority of the Yankee Congress for the cost of 5 to 8 billions of dollars per year. According to the AIPAC’s “Progress and Policy Report of 2005”, published in their internet page, among their victories there is “the Congress approving of a hundred legislative initiatives in favor of Israel. It includes 3 billions of dollars of direct help and other 10 billions converted in loans and advanced military technology transference to the big Israeli gun export corporations.”

THE “SYRIA OBJECTIVE”

Both, Washington and the Arabic world, are discussing that before any type of armed action against Iran, a preventive military attack against Syria should be a priority in the White House and Tel Aviv’s agenda.

According to specialized people, Syria is, more than Iran, an immediate objective. In case Iran becomes militarily attacked by US and Israel, the Pentagon needs first to neutralize a possible massive Islamic guerrilla convergence that can originate in Syria. With this intention, they push for the formation of “an international appeal” in favor of a military intervention in Syria.

The assassinations of the Lebanese ex-premier Rafik Hariri and the Lebanese journalist Tueni added with the United Nation “criminal” correspondent informs are operations that are driven in order to create an environment of global accommodation. The objective is to impose an immediate withdraw of the Lebanese army that is present in Syria. The operation aims also to provoke Damascus by alleging that they are behind all of the terrorist attacks implemented in the Islamic “extremist” camps and bases of practice. Shaul Mofaz, Kodima´s Israeli minister of defense and Benjamin Netanyahu, Likud´s leader, are both in direct synchrony with Washington’s neoconservatives in order to execute the “Syria objective”.

IRAN TRENCHES ITSELF FOR THE WAR

Iran has been threatened by a growing Yankee hostility and has been pressured by Washington’s military bases implanted on both borders (Afghanistan and Iraq). As a result, it deepened its anti-American and anti-Israeli profound position by electing the Shiite Mahmud Ahmadinejad as its President.

Tehran has clearly retaken the risks of its nuclear program; has also developed a new generation of missiles (Shahab-3), capable to reach the Israeli Dimona´s nuclear center; and has amplified its military commerce with Russia, India and China. At the same time, it suppresses its traditional attitude and antagonism against Saudi Arabia and becomes closer to its new king in Ryad.

The Iranian elite retakes its old political pretensions of being a decisive force in the Upcoming East, capable of sanctifying its territory (with missiles and nuclear power) by calling the Arabic world to “eliminate Israel from the Middle Eastern map.”

Before entering into coma, Sharon perfectly understood the new diplomatic and military conditions in the Middle East: the Israeli “shelter” (Dimona´s nuclear power) was, for the first time, vulnerable.

However, the Iranian bourgeois regime does not deserve the Arabian and Palestinian masses’ trust. After four meetings with their ambassadors in Iraq, US got a huge victory by securing the Iranian cooperation in the stabilization of their collaborationist Shiite regime in Iraq. Iran not only recognized the marionette Iraqi regime, but also established commercial accords with them. They also supported the fraudulent elections controlled by the Anglo-Yankee invasion against the Iraqi resistance which is influenced by the Zunis.

HAMAS IS THREATENING TO DEFEAT THE CORRUPT AND COLLABORATIONIST MAHMOUD ABBAS’ AL FATAH

There will be congressional elections in Palestine on January 25, in order to renew the Palestinian Legislative Council. It will occur in the middle of a recrudescent Israeli army repression against the Palestinians. Since December they are separating the West Bank northern districts from other Palestinian cities with “temporary controlled stations”. These stations prohibit the residents from these regions to dislocate themselves to Ramallah and other localities in the West Bank. As a result, about 800 thousand Palestinians from the Tulkarem, Nablus and Janin districts are constantly martyred. Hamas, the strongest opposition force in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and a big defender of the destruction of the Israeli State, created in the first days of January/06 its own Palestinian TV network, following Hezbollah’s example who receive support from Syria and Iran. Hamas, who has been stopped from doing political campaign in Jerusalem, is threatening to defeat the Al Fatah, party that is controlled by the president of the Palestine National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas. Al Fatah is openly desegregating since the death of Arafat. Since it does not have a leader with authority that could unify the organization, the Al Fatah has been eroded from the top to the bottom by corruption. In addition, the split between militia and direction inside the organization drove the militia to open fire against the PNA and to get into serious armed conflicts into Southern Gaza. Sharon’s strategy of making the PLO’s structure weaker and of not recognizing the PNA as an interlocutor of the Palestinians, favored the anti-Zionist sectors of the Palestinian struggle. On the other hand, if the Hamas win the elections, it will occur a dramatic change in the Zionist own elections which could increase the polarization in favor of the Likud Netanyahu’s right wing. Kadima without Sharon can dissipate itself forcing its members to return of to their original parties.

TO BURY ISRAEL WITH SHARON! FOR AN ARABIC SOVIET FEDERATION OF THE SOCIALIST REPUBLICANS!

2006 pre-announces new and, maybe, bigger conflicts in the Middle East. The panorama is polarizing: Washington and Tel Aviv are preparing the bases to attack Iran and Syria. The Palestinian guerrilla’s organizations announced the end of the ceasing fire established since 2004 with the Zionist enclaves. Members of the Iranian Al-Qaeda’s cells are calling for attacks by using Katiusha missiles directly against Israel and explosions against hotels in the West Bank. Taking advantage of the increasing anti-American feelings in the region, Al-Qaeda is planning to convert Palestine into a new Iraq. As a sample of the imperialist terror that is generalizing in the entire zone, the US bombed a familiar village in the interior of Pakistan near to the Afghani border. They killed 18 people including women and children. Supposedly, the objective of this new attack was to kill the number 2 Al-Qaeda´s leader, Aymar Al-Zarwahiri. Immediately, Pakistani crowds went to the streets in the entire country calling for the “death of USA”, “death of Bush”, sending the message that “an American friend is a betrayer”. They denounced their own government, Pervez Musharraf, because of his alliance with the imperialism, calling for the immediate retreat of the Yankee troops from Afghanistan.

In Iraq, with methods and armaments of popular war (homemade artifacts and explosives), the Iraqi resistance is imposing a shaming defeat to the most powerful army in the planet. Bush’s war ballistic contract basis in Iraq has become a complete disaster.

In the fight to expel the Anglo-Yankee and Zionist invasion out of their region and confronting the conflagrations that are approaching, the Arabic and Palestinian masses should demand from Iranian and Syrian governments the immediate general armament of their population.

However, the masses should not trust their Arabic bourgeois’s leaders who serve their eastern capitalist landlords and have historically betrayed the oppressed people’s fight in the region. As recent examples of this type of leaders, we can mention Saddam Hussein in Iraq and Al Fatah in Palestine. The central task at this moment is to close ranks against attacks over Syria and Iran, to expel the invaders out of Palestine and Iraq and to unify the entire anti-imperialist fighters to liquidate Israel all together with Sharon. In replace of the Nazi-Zionist state it is necessary to build a Soviet Palestine of Arabic and Hebraic proletarian counsels. In this revolutionary strategic perspective, it is necessary to expropriate the reactionary elites and to establish a worker and peasant’s government in the whole region. The Middle Eastern people’s true unity will only be possible under the construction mark of an Arabic Soviet Federation of the Socialist Republicans.
