With the biotech turn Alias has taken lately, this is a topic you might want to explore in fic. Here are some sites that will help you do it.

general

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: A great site, because it focuses more on the "scary" diseases and viruses, the ones you're probably more likely to use in a fic, including things like SARS and smallpox.

adam Health Illustrated Encyclopedia: Online health encyclopedia that also contains a drug information section and a medical dictionary. The main problem with it is that it's not very searchable.

WebMD: More consumer-geared, but it is very searchable and contains articles and information on a wide variety of health/medical topics.

biometrics

NEW: Biometrics enters third dimension (Wired News): Talks about three-dimensional facial scanning, and how it works. 3D scanning is supposed to be more secure and effective than the traditional variety.

NEW: Biometric security barely skin-deep (PC World): Goes into the current limitations of biometric scanners (including good, and scarily simple, ways to fool one).

How Facial Recognition Systems Work (howstuffworks): Sensing a theme here? Howstuffworks rules.

How Fingerprint Scanners Work (howstuffworks): Yep, again.

memory

NEW: Memory Loss & The Brain: A whole site dedicated to memory loss.

NEW: Memory Loss (Discovery Channel): Goes what's going on in the brain to cause memory loss.

NEW: False memories have characteristic brain activity (New Scientist): An interesting look at false memories, with some good links as well. Posted by nanda, originally, I believe.

genetics/genomics

Alias: Genomics Goes Prime Time (Genome News Network): Talks about Alias' use of genetics, and just what is and isn't realistic. Some of it, apparently, and scarily, is (courtesy Thorne).

Genome News Network: In addition to occasional articles on Alias, this site is a good source of information about genomics. Includes some introductory stuff such as "A Quick Guide to Sequenced Genomes," "What's a Genome?" and a timeline (courtesy Thorne).

Genome Research and Genetics News: Gateway to resources on genomics/genetics, including research papers, basic explanations and applications.

Genomics Glossary: Contains a genomics glossary as well as links to other genomics research, and the difference between genetics and genomics. You have to sign in to access resources, but it's free.

cloning

NewsFile: Cloning (Time): Time magazine articles and resources on cloning.

Cloning Fact Sheet: A short FAQ on cloning, useful if you just want a little info.

The First Cloning Superpower (Wired): Discusses China's moves to become the cloning center of the world.

Special Report: Cloning and Stem Cells: Resources, including news articles and an FAQ, on stem cells and cloning.

HumanCloning.org: Site for organization that supports human cloning.

viruses

How Viruses Work (howstuffworks.com): Explains how viruses work, including how they infect people, and how they spread.

The Big Picture Book of Viruses: Good resources if you're looking for information about a specific virus, or looking for a specific virus to use. It lists viruses by family, by name, and you can also access them by things like genome type and host, as well as other ways.

nanotechnology

How Nanotechnology Will Work (howstuffworks.com): Explains the fundamentals of nanotechnology.

Nanotech: Engines of Hyperbole? (Wired): Discusses the possibility of these "teeny-weeny" robots.

hazmat

Hazmat links: Put together by a group who has the hazmat.com domain and, apparently, has nothing to do with Hazmat, this is a good list of Hazmat-related sites.
