Lance walked into the bar, sitting down at a small round table for two in the corner. Ordering a beer, he observed the people around him, until a brunette a few tables over caught his attention.
Taking a drink of his beer, Lance stood up, squinting through the dim lights and smoky haze to make sure he was seeing correctly. Sighing softly, he stopped at the table, clearing his throat. "Hi, Bobbee," he said.
Bobbee looked up, blinking her eyes as she looked at the tall blonde standing before her. "Do I know you?" she asked.
"Actually no, but I know you, kind of," Lance replied. "Can I join you?"
"I guess," Bobbee answered, motioning to the seat across from her. Lance sat down, and Bobbee bit her lip, watching him closely. "Is there something I can do for you, umm..."
"Lance," he introduced himself. "Does the name ring any bells for you?"
Her brow furrowed in thought for a moment, before she made the connection. "Lance. You're Josh's boyfriend, aren't you?"
Lance nodded. "That would be me. I love him with all my heart, but somehow he seems to still be holding a candle for you."
Bobbee was visibly taken aback by the revelation, and Lance's face softened slightly. He motioned to the empty glass in front of Bobbee, offering a small smile. "Buy you a drink?" he asked.
She nodded, and Lance turned in his chair, motioning for a server. "Strawberry margarita," she told him when he walked over, and they both sat in silence until the drink was brought back, Bobbee taking a long drink of the frozen beverage.
"Maybe I shouldn't have put that so bluntly, but it's frustrating, really," Lance said softly.
"What makes you think that he still has some kind of feelings for me?" Bobbee questioned. "He's the one that broke it off with me, he's the one that told me he was interested in men more than women. I don't understand."
"He calls out to you," Lance answered. "When he's asleep. He did it last night, and it happens about three times a week. I haven't confronted him on it, I wouldn't know how to even bring it up."
"Maybe he's having nightmares," Bobbee said lightly, trying to smile.
"Not when it's coupled with 'I love you, always and forever," Lance replied. "I feel like a fool for thinking that he had the same feelings for me that I did for him."
Bobbee sighed, running her finger across the salt that lined the top of her glass. "If you love him that much, you need to talk to him about it."
"I know that," Lance told her. "I know how precious true love
is, and I'm trying desperately to find a way to make things work.
But it hurts me, every time we're in bed together and he says your name."
Bobbee looked at him. "I'm not sure what you want me to say,"
she said finally. "There's not too much I can do about it."
"I know, and for the life of me, I don't know why this is happening. I know the things that went on during your relationship, I'm just as confused about all of this as you are."
Bobbee's eyes widened. "What do you mean by that?"
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be rude or hateful," Lance said quickly. "But you never loved him, you know that just as well as I do. I've seen you around town with at least a dozen different guys since you and Josh were over, too. There's nothing wrong with that, but I'm just saying that I'm confused as to why things are this way."
Lance stood up then. "For some reason you still have some part of his heart, and it's killing me inside to know that. But if it's possible to make things work out, I'm going to see to it that they do. Take care of yourself, Bobbee."
"You too, Lance."
With that, Lance walked away, handing the bartender enough money to cover his tab, before walking out of the bar.
"I love you, Josh," he said out loud as he got into his car. "I
just hope you'll realize that true love is right in front of your face,
if you'd just open your eyes."

The Fool
Performed by: Lee Ann Womack
You don't know me but I know who you are
Mind if I sit down
Do I look familiar if I don't well I should
I'm sure you've seen me around
I know you've probably heard my name
Though we've not been introduced
I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you
If you've got a minute I'll buy you a drink
I've got something to say
It might sound crazy but last night in his sleep
I heard him call out your name
This ain't the first time he's done it before
And it's hard to face the truth
I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you
I know love is a fragile thing
And I'm trying hard to make it last
But it ain't easy holding on to my dream
When he's holding on to the past
Just one more thing before I go
I'm not here to put you down
You don't love him and that's a fact
Girl I've seen you around
But you hold his heart in the palm of your hand
And it's breaking mine in two
'Cause I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you
I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you
