Rob on his former
teammate:
"It was a treat playing with Wayne Gretzky, I think any
time you have the greatest hockey player of all time on your
team, you can learn so much, especially ->
the things he does off the
ice, the way he handles the press, and the way he handles
winning and losing. Wayne was exceptional at that, as much as
he was an exceptional athlete."
Wings and Kings might
trade for Peca
By Larry Wigge - The
Sporting News
How much is it worth to
a team to have a guy who can win an important faceoff with the
game on the line, shut down the other team's best scoring line
or provide the other intangibles Sabres center Michael Peca
excels at? Before Peca demanded a trade last week, he thought
he was worth between $3.5 million and $4 million. The Sabres
offered $2.25 million, up from the $1.65 million he made last
season. Bet on Detroit or Los Angeles making a pitch for the
former Selke award winner. . .

Panthers GM Bryan
Murray says even if four of his top players defer salaries to
make room for Kings defenseman Rob
Blake -- as they suggested to the Fort Lauderdale
Sun-Sentinel -- Murray says the money would still have to be
paid eventually, and Los Angeles would want a king's ransom
for Blake. Don't look for Kings GM Dave Taylor to deal Blake
anyway unless he's forced to before the March trading
deadline.

Blake set the team record for most games played by
a defenseman during Saturday's 3-1 loss at Phoenix. He
had shared the record with current assistant coach Mark
Hardy. ... Rookie Lubomir
Visnovsky scored his first NHL goal ... Ziggy
Palffy extended his points streak to four games and leads
the league with 17 points. ... The Kings had their
two-game winning streak snapped and fell for the third time in
five outings.
