Valentine Surprise
by Szi Shen
"Heero! Heero!" Duo called out. It was almost time for them to leave for school and Heero's nowhere to be found. He had looked all over their apartment and he still can't find the other pilot. Where is that guy? Duo thought to himself as he walked out of the apartment.
He saw him a few minutes later coming out a flower shop a few blocks away from their school, grinning to himself as he walked on towards their school. The long braided pilot was about to call him when he was suddenly struck with something-Heero was grinning! He was surprised and intrigued by this unusual habit for Heero. He walked to the display window of the flower shop and peeked in.
Nothing was unusual in the shop, just the same old man preparing the orders of bouquets and the dozens of kinds of flowers on display. There was definitely nothing in here that would make Heero like that. He sighed as he began to walk on.
"Yikes!!!" Duo just realized what time it was. It took him a while to watch Heero and looking inside the flower shop, that it was almost eight o'clock. "Fuck, I'm gonna be late!" he muttered as he began a mad dash for their school.

"R-r-r-r-r-riiiing!!!"
"Made it!" Duo gasped as he slumped on his desk. He barely stepped in their classroom when the school bell rang.
"Woke up late again, Duo?" A familiar, sarcastic voice came from behind him.
"Heero!" Duo turned in his seat to face him. Heero's unusual grin this morning had disappeared and had been replaced by his usual blank expression. He was about to open his mouth to ask him about this morning, but then decided against it. He knew Heero wouldn't answer him if he didn't want to. He shook his head and sighed.
"Duo, is there something wrong?" the other boy asked, a slight tinge of concern in his voice.
Whoa! Heero is worried about me? This is really weird...What's happening to him?! Duo thought. "Ahh...nothing, nothing at all. Oh, our teacher's here." He turned away from him and stood along with rest of the class to greet their teacher. Heero stared quizzically at him as he stood up, too. Duo could still feel him staring at him as they sat down. He decided to shrug it off and tried to ignore him as much as he can.
The whole day went on like any other day, except that every time Duo sees Heero, he always caught him staring at him strangely.
"What?" Duo asked him once.
"What do you mean 'What?'" Heero asked back, somewhat caught of guard.
Duo frowned. "What are you staring at?"
"Nothing." He turned and walked away, leaving Duo behind.
Duo was sure he saw an odd gleam in his eyes. Wha...Hee-ro...? What's happening to you? What are you hiding?

The final bell rang and student streamed out of the campus. Duo walked home alone, unable to find Heero. This had happened several times before, Heero vanishing into nowhere, but his unusual behavior worried him. He sadly sighed. "Heero..."
He passed by the flower shop Heero went in his morning and decided to enter.
"Good afternoon," the old shopkeeper greeted. "What can I do for you? a lovely bouquet for your valentine, perhaps?"
"Valentine?" That's when it hit him. Heero probably ordered flowers here-but for whom? "Excuse me, but did someone ordered a bouquet for...Ms. Relena? A young man?"
"For Princess Relena? Why of course. Lots of young lads bought flowers for her."
"Oh." Stupid question. Duo thought sarcastically.
"So, would you like to buy some?"
"Uh, no. Thanks anyway."

Duo walked home in depressed silence. He thought that Heero's strange attitude was probably because he was finally returning the same feelings he had for him-he was wrong; it was Relena. He smirked bitterly at her name. Relena. She finally got what she wanted...Heero. He sighed.
It was twilight when Duo reached their apartment; the lights were off when he came inside. "I'm home." He called out. He didn't expect someone to answer back and he was surprised when a voice came from up the stairs.
"What took you so long?"
"What the-Heero?" Heero was grinning down at him, holding out a large bunch of roses. He felt a bit confused now. Is he handing them to me for me to give them to her-or are they... "What are those? For Relena?"
Heero's smile vanished and he actually looked hurt. Duo suddenly felt guilty-he didn't mean to make it sound fierce. "Heero, I'm-"
"Iie, it was a stupid idea anyway."
"Huh?!"
"Duo, you idiotic , brainless dummy." Heero turned and started to walk up the stairs but Duo caught his arm.
"They're for me?" Duo blushed slightly.
Heero thrust the bouquet at him.
"Oh, Heero!" Duo exclaimed as he accepted the bouquet. He bent his head to smell the flowers. "They're beautiful." He looked up and saw Heero blushing as well.
"You talk like a girl."
"You treat me like one." Duo looked at the roses. "Thank you." he whispered. He stood up on tiptoes and kissed Heero on the cheek.
"You're welcome." He whispered back as he wrapped his arms around the brown-eyed pilot's waist and pulled him closer for a deeper kiss.
