--- Received from EN.RASHIDS 3955 KULEGMH 12-10-00 18.47 -> EXCO amalae exco members -> AMALAE members Guys, I've been receiving so many calls/emails or being stopped by LAEs eager to know the latest developments with regards to our "proposal". So here are the latest but it may not be too "cheery" a news, but not too depressing as well... 1. OC did not disapprove the presentation (no objection to most issues raised) 2. However, they have asked that HR look into the distribution of money as what we've asked is a substantial hike in basic pay. They indicated that this may trigger a ripple/storm with the rest of the masses as they may want an equally big jump in pay. I can understand their concern. Hence, HR will redo the proposal and after our agreement, bring it to OC for their vetting and ok before being tabled to Board. This will not affect the final bottomline of yr take home pay as it is only a redistribution. (anyway, we'll see on Monday 16/10 how it is redistributed) 3. The only not too good news is that the Board mtg may be sometime ( I was told 22/11). We're trying to find means to expedite this presentation to Board. I'm planning to do a briefing session to all LAEs soon once we have a clearer picture of things ahead of us. Meanwhile, we see more advertisements that are too lucrative to just put aside..and as my good friend Capt Rahman said, "that's the reality"..and what we're doing may just be a dream. Well, we have to continue to pursue this matter as apart from the financial aspect, the issue of recognition is being seriously put across to higher management and I can say that they are very positive on this. It may be premature to say this, but they have in principle agree in the OC meeting that LAEs be granted a body to represent themselves, and which better organization than what is currently available. We're separately talking to other parties on this matter and we shall be updating you guys soon.. So, is there a light at the end of the tunnel and a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?? Only time will tell... Do say yr prayers that we'll succed in our endeavour to uplift the profession to a position it deserves. However, the reality, currently is, it is still a struggle, but we see a gentle breeze rather than a storm from all quarters now. But whatever it is the decision to face which "realities" is in yr own hands...... Best regards, Rashid ***pls disseminate to rest of national LAEs.. This is because we need to clear some issues with the EVPs. I had a chat with Dato' Bashir, En. Rodzlan and Mr. Khoo during today's OTT meeting at Kelana Jaya. The following are the latest updates. Please treat other "news" as just the ocassional breeze that rustle the leaves - just to make life more exciting! So here it is.. 1. We'll be in close touch with HR Dept to ensure that all are assisting with the HR presentation to OC. I must say here that Engg Mgmt have been very helpful in this case. 3. We expect to get some feedback from OC by next Thursday (5/10) Please note that we're trying to expedite our "dealings" with Mgmt on this issue, however, the due process need to be done. Actually we have, thru the assistance of Engg Mgmt and our "lobbying" some EVPs, manage to put across our case much earlier. As for the current handicap situation in ASU especially with the shortage of LAEs, I have hilited to En. Wan Rahim, thru En Taj, to review the ASU operations and adjust accordingly so as to lessen the burden on the remaining personnel. En. Taj have assured me that this will be done. Meanwhile, I would like to caution all of you to be more alert as with the shortage, it may have some negative consequences on our working habit - such as fatigue due working long hours, tendency to cut corners, missing important tasks, etc.. So take time to do your tasks and ensure all paperwork are diligently done up. Communicate with yourselves and your counterparts in a manner that we do not miss any critical tasks. Remember, we're custodians of safety and airworthiness, do not compromise on your professionalism. Uphold our integrity as LAEs. Best regards, Abd. Rashid Sharif ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gentlemen, Latest updates on LAE proposal ============================== After days of deliberation and consultation with many of you guys, we have drafted our proposal and yesterday (27/9) we have presented it to EVP-Airline, Dato' Bashir. We were quite happy with his reactions towards the proposal as he is supportive and have "sponsored" it for OC presentation. He has in fact immediately contacted his conterpart in OC for it to be presented today. Hence, this morning, we'll be going over to OC to present our case. For everybody's info, OC is the highest decision making body in the company, before the matter is brought to the board's attention. Dato' Bashir has also briefed Tan Sri Chairman on our case. I have also personally briefed Dato Abdullah on our issue and he has also supported our case. So guys, pray that we can pass this hurdle in our effort to be recognised and rewarded accordingly. I'll brief you guys later once we are back from the OC presentation. Best regards, Abd. Rashid Sharif AMALAE PRESIDENT ................................................. Guys, We had a discussion on the latest development in ASU where 4 more LAEs resigned and more will follow soon. Today, apprently there is a long queue of LAEs at one leading hotel in town attending Gulf Air interview. Many more may pack their bags? We'll see.... The key pulling factor is $$ & RMRM, no doubt about it and the push factor is also money as MAS is paying a pittance as compared to other organizations (even local ones), apart from the "hygiene factors" of working condition, treatment and "recognition". Having considered those factors, we felt that the priority issue is to look and resolve the "financial" aspect of our woes. Hence, we shall propose that LAES be given the following (apart from what Engg. Mgmt has agreed to review in the mtg on Aug 23, which can be done immediately as it is within their control, but the ones below may take sometime as it involves HR and corporate mgmt):- 1. 4 scales within the LAME salary range Scale 1 start pay is RM3,500 and increment of 7% annually to apply. Scale 2, 3 & 4 are to cater for career pathing for snr. LAEs whereby upgrades will be subject to performance. I'm not able to reveal the figures yet, but it is a substantial increase from the present range. 2. The other terms and conditions have been prepared, but this will not be discussed at tomorrow's mtg with Mgmt. We shall present it to OC once invited. 3. We shall table the details later, perhaps at a forum to all LAEs. 4. We are not able to predict the outcome of our request for this total package review of LAEs terms and condition (including salary), but we strongly feel that if Mgmt fail to do anything concrete, we may suffer operationally, as they may be an exodus of LAEs soon. So guys, let's hope for the best and please give us your feedback. Best regards, Abd. Rashid Sharif ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 30 August 2000 Gentlemen, Consequent to our meeting with Management on 23/8/00 (refer summary of mtg from LAE Halim below), another discussion took place yesterday at SZB. The following are updates of what has been accomplished thus far. 1. LAEs holding B3 and G3 less FTB and Borescope and Compass Compensation will continue to hold those ratings, i.e., they will not be downgraded to a lower category of B2 or G3. The INs will be amended to reflect these changes. Meanwhile, training to equip LAEs with those skills will continue. 2. We have been invited by OC (Operating Council) to make a presentation on the "total package" for LAEs terms and conditions. Engineering Mgmt have been very supportive on this and we hope what we have drafted and presented many years ago may get through this time. 3. ASU Mgmt (En. Yusoff Majid and his team) will be doing a "road show" to highlight the improvements that are and will be done in the work environment, such as additional equipments purchased, manpower competency upgrades, etc. Pls interact and air yr concerns to them co that remedial actions can be done. 4. By this memo, we hope the LAEs committee set up in KLIA will work together with the main AMALAE exco to draft a proposal that will be eventually handed over to Mgmt. I have requested for 2 weeks to prepare as I believe the one that we produced years ago is still valid (in concept) though we may have to alter the figures. To all LAEs, pls also give your inputs. It is after all for your own benefits. 5. We will continue to update you on the progress of any meetings or discussion. Meanwhile, ensure your comments are sent to us so that we can act on them. Likewise, report to us on any issue or incidents that affect the profession or yr working environment so that we can take it up with the relevant party. Best regards, Abd.
