The 21st century is upon us and like most people we see all the great accomplishments of the human spirit cascading about us. We see the advancements in technology, the cures that science has given, and the great push to achieve all things that will be. It's really a great time to be living don' t you think? After all, look at how well we are doing, with our advancing technology we've managed to take away parts of the ozone layer, clear cut trees faster, not to mention the piles of garbage and toxic waste. Yes, we really are in a great age aren't we; mass destruction of the biosphere is a marvelous thing! Not only that, but if you think about it, we save a lot of time in our hectic lives by making sure we buy products that can just be thrown away after we are done, no time wasted on cleaning. As Martha Stewart would say, "and that's a good thing!" Yes and me setting fire to a whole neighborhood would be a good thing too wouldn't it? Or how about if I take the worlds food surplus and somehow contaminate them, that would be a good thing too right? The only thing that comes to mind can be left said in one word, delusional. But of course sense nothing is ever so easy as to leave in just that one simple word, it would be best to continue on and explain. Most thing s that the world views as good, in the long run is not, CFC's were originally thought of as a great thing until suddenly we realized that they were doing more harm to our environment. So like most other things in life we took them, and threw them into the trash heap...oh wait, how did that fix the problem? Now we have those CFC's leaking out of those machines, oh well says most, out of sight out of mind is good for you for the time. All this out of sight out of mind may be good for those of you today, but what about your offspring, the ones whom have to live with the neglect and stupidity of those who came before them? Don't just shove everything out of your mind and go back to your happy thoughts that everything is right in the world. And don't just start worrying about the earth on earth day, it does not take a day to help the environment. It should not be the only day that we stop our busy lives and try and do something...but wait, there are a lot of people in the world who do not do anything for earth day, to that I say for shame. For shame that you all would believe that there are more important things out there for you then the earth! Do those who not participate really want to see their children grow up in a place where our generation's garbage prevents them from moving? Where our generations waste has ridden the ozone layer, and now they face constant pains from harmful sunrays? If it is not for you that you get involved in a cause for the earth, then do it for them, those who are unborn but will inherit the earth. Look across at the children around you and see their smiling faces, then suddenly picture those faces contorted with pain from defects of harmful sunrays. Can you live with yourself for this, for not doing at least one little thing to help out? Will humanity ever be able to survive if some sort of intervention from the mass population doesn't interject soon? Do your part, take part in earth day, take part in preserving life, and bettering our earth for those generations to come. Perhaps through this, you will save the life of one of yours in the future, do nothing, and perhaps you just signed their death.
