mhaÏma .. 25 - 27 ..

I - 25-27: All of us indeed are essentially divine. This is the conclusion of all spiritual enquiry. Adi Sankaracharya, in his dakSiNAmUrti-aSTakam has established this very effectively. Whenever the scriptures talk of multiplicity as if it were real it is to communicate in the popular language. That a second thing exists is only an illusionary appearance. The ordinary man thinks of this Soul as limited and constricted by space and time. He thinks of the eternal Self as transient and time-bound. Only by a spiritual knowledge can this beginningless ignorance be eradicated. From this misunderstanding of Truth does spring all misconceptions about Reality. Such a delusion caught hold of Arjuna right at the beginning of the war. From that delusion he was led to forget his own Self . He was a scholar no doubt but even he fell a prey to this delusion. After the gitopadesa by the Lord he overcame the delusion and got back his rightful awareness of the Self . This is the objective of the total teaching of the Lord.

I - 28: The nectar of the gItA is obtained at every spiritual step. The obtainment is itself an abuse of language. It is only a way of saying; because there is nothing to obtain. We are already eternal. That the mind with all its vAsanAs is non-existent is the resulting knowledge obtained by proper enquiry. One who realises this gets the five-fold enlightenment – namely, the recapturing of the Knowledge which is already his, the fruit of all penance, equanimity, the end of all misery and the onset of Bliss.

I - 29-32: The setu is at the shore of the ocean crossing which one reaches one’s objective. In esoteric terms setu is the suSumna-nADI where the two great rivers, YamunA and gangA both merge with the invisible sarswatI. The setu that takes you to the realisation of the Self is the suSumna nADI travelling which the Energy of the kunDalinI reaches the Supreme. There is no more return to the mundane world of duality after that.
