I- 136-138: Creation, Protection and Sustenance, Dissolution, Effacement, Grace are the five Divine Functions. They are represented in the five Houses (= sabhAs) of the Lord known as: kanaka (=golden) sabhA in Chidambaram; rajata (=silver) sabhA in Madura; ; ratna (=ruby) sabhA in Tiruvalangadu; tAmra (= copper) sabhA in SalivATi ; and citra (=mystic) sabhA in Kuttalam. The face of the drum in the upper right hand is the suddha-mAyA that is the origin of the Universe. The index finger holding the drum is the kriyA Sakti of the Lord that Creates. The Sound arising from the vibration of the drum is the Original Word that is the nAda Principle. The abhaya mudrA shown by the lower right hand shows the protective function as well as the transient nature of the Universe. It is the jnAna Sakti. The Fire of the Torch in the upper left hand indicates the icchA Sakti which dissolves the Universe. The held foot indicates the Effacement (= tirodhAna) - this is the work of Adi-Sakti; The raised foot grants the final Grace and therefore the moksha, release, of the soul from bondage - this is the work of parASakti. The tiger skin is the ego of the soul, the deer is the mind, the Ganges on the head is the ciTSakti. The demon underneath is the mAyA. Which is in His control. This Cosmic Dance of the Lord takes place without any Action, without any Stage - in the very Consciousness that is the only thing always and everywhere.

I - 139-142: Manifestation of the Universe is when the Power of the Almighty is explicit. When the same Power is withdrawn, there is no manifestation and the Absolute Reality shines all by itself. Manifestation of the Self as an individual self is the reflection of the Supreme Light, that is the Lord, in the mirror-like configuration of the vAsanAs of the individual soul. By the very look of the Lord these manifestations take place, not by any worldly considerations of cause and effect. All the different individual births take place in this cosmic Womb of the Lord. What is manifest is like a picture on a screen. It is only the screen. Picture is only an appearance.

I - 143-147: The existence of what we see is nothing but the existence of the substratum. It is the Light that is within that shows itself as the Universe and the different objects. It is the One Light that shows as the Many. It is a phenomenon, known as prakRti, that weaves the infinite universe endlessly. There is no waning of this weaving because of the infiniteness of prakRti. The senses of the individual self are supposed to be supreme but they are subordinate to mind and intellect. And beyond the intellect and beyond the prakRti, is the Supreme

I - 148-151: He created the universe and 'entered' it, says the scriptures. 'Entering' is like the sun 'entering' the water and appearing as if from within the water. It is the Effulgent Light of the Supreme that remains as the thread of continuity in the different stages of the outer self, as well as in the multiplicity of the universe or in the varied characters of the several people. It is the One Reality that appears as the Many and the most efficient exposition of this is by the pregnant Silence of the Master-Teacher. Rejecting the visible multiplicity if one can see the universe as the expression of the One Self that is within, He is the wisest among men. Extended breathing practices will help the search for this Divine Perception.
