"Feeding of the Five Thousand"

Matthew 14:13-21

I have been following Jesus of Nazareth ever since he taught us about laws on the mountain. I have walked all around Galilee watching Jesus heal the sick and cure lepers. One day, Jesus started to paddle a boat across the lake alone. I, among many others, decided to follow him, hoping he would preach to us. When he realized we were following him, he didn’t seem angry, and stopped to talk to us. He healed some people who were sick, and preached the Good News.

After some time had passed, his disciples approached him and requested he tell us all to go home and eat supper. Jesus turned down the proposal, and told his disciples to feed us with their own food. Jesus’ words shocked everyone who overheard them, because the disciples only had five loaves of bread and a couple of fish. We were such a large crowd that ten times that amount wouldn’t feed us.

Jesus took the little food the disciples gave him, and looked to the heavens. He said a prayer of blessing, and gave the disciples food to hand out. I was so hungry, and grew impatient. I didn’t think there would be any food left for me, so I pushed my way to the front of the line. I was awe-stricken when Peter asked me if I wanted seconds.

After all was said and done, about an hour of serving, five thousand men and some women and children had eaten. From the five fish and two loaves of bread, there were a dozen wicker baskets full of leftovers. None of us knew how Jesus had accomplished this task, but we all believed.
