The
Tree At Rockefeller Center

"Come
on Katrina" AJ said as her put on his jacket. "We have to go
before your mom comes home.
"Ok
daddy", a four year old girl said as she ran out of her room also putting
on her jacket. AJ walked into the kitchen and picked up a small package that was
wrapped in foil and put it in his pocket.
"Come on daddy, lets go," the little girl said grabbing her father's
hand.
"Ok
Katrina," AJ replied with a soft chuckle, "lets go."
AJ and his daughter walked to the car. AJ took his keys out of his
pocket and handed them to Katrina. She searched for the little gadget that opens
in the car door and pressed the button. AJ swept his daughter into his hands and
put her in her car seat and strapped her in.
"Where
are we going tonight?" Katrina asked.
"To
Rockefeller Center honey, we're going to help with the Christmas tree." AJ
drove for while, and Katrina began to fall asleep but was awoken by the lights
of Rockefeller Center. "Ok Sweetheart, we're here" AJ said as he
parked the car.
AJ
got out and took Katrina out of her car seat and set her on the ground. They
walked for a while until they reached a post, like one that a tree would be
planted in. "Katrina, did you bring your little shovel like I asked you
to?"
"Yes
daddy, it's right here" she replied taking the shovel out of her pocket. He
put her to sit on the post.
"
Ok Honey, now remember when you told me you dig the best holes ever, I want you
to dig me a hole" AJ said.
"Ok
daddy," Katrina said looking very puzzled but obeyed her father.
"All
right Pumpkin, that's a great hole" AJ said. He took the little foil
package out of his pocket and opened it. In it was a piece of Christmas
Fruitcake. He took the fruitcake and put it in the hole. Then he picked an acorn
plant up off the floor and put it on top of the fruitcake. "You can't tell
mommy we did this ok Katrina" AJ said. The little girl said nothing; she
just shook her head to agree. They covered the hole and AJ put her to stand on
the floor. Then knelt down on one knee so they would be eye to eye. "Now
Katrina, you have to remind me, that we have to come back in three weeks, so you
have to mark the calendar, ok" AJ said.
"Yes,
daddy" Katrina said nodding rapidly.
So
Katrina followed her calendar for three weeks until November 28th. "Daddy,
daddy we have to go back!" she said struggling to pull her father's jacket
behind her.
"Ok
Sweet Pea, let's go" AJ said putting on his jacket.
They went back Rockefeller Center. "Ok Katrina close you're eyes" AJ
said as they walked to the tree post.
"Daddy
can I open my eyes now?" Katrina said after a few minutes.
"Just
now Hun" AJ replied as he put her on his shoulders. "Okay! Now! Open
um!" AJ said. Katrina gasped as before her in that same spot where her and
her father planted the acorn plant and fruit cake, stood the biggest Christmas
tree she ever saw.
"Wow
daddy, look at the tree" she said in amazement.
"I
see it Honey" AJ replied. "And remember you can't ever tell mommy we
used her fruitcake to plant this tree."
"I
won't daddy,” she said. " I won't."
