*~* Chapter 6: Dying to Be With You."

Vykki woke up with the sun shining through her window.  The rains had finally stopped and the sky was highlighted with a rainbow.  She smelt the sent of coffee wafting into her room.  The smell beckoned her into the kitchen, where she found AJ sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of him.  He had a sad statement on his face.

"Hey baby what's wrong?" Vykki asked as she pulled a chair up next to him and sat.  

"Nothing." AJ replied staring into the cup.  He got up after a while and went into the bedroom.  "Um Vykki, I'll see you later." AJ said when he came out.
"Um, ok." She replied.

Vykki stayed home all day.  AJ hadn't called her. He hadn't come back over to visit, nothing.  She picked up the phone and dialed Howie's number.

"Hi Howie, do you know where AJ is?"

"No sorry.  I haven't heard from him in a while."

"Oh man! I'm really worried.  I don't know where he went." Vykki replied as she flipped on the TV.  The news was on.

"Well it looks like Backstreet's snapped." The news reporter begun.  "Backstreet Boy AJ McLean has been spotted on the roof of a building threatening to jump."

"Oh my gosh!  Howie, AJ's trying to kill himself." Vykki screamed into the phone.  She recognized the building immediately.  It was the building were Nikki used to work.  "Howie go down to 1321 Manhattan Street now! I'll meet you there.”  Vykki put on her shoes and ran out of her apartment.  When she got there, she jumped out of her car and looked up.  She could see AJ on top of the building.  With his arms spanned out.  There were news reporters running everywhere.  The fire department was there too with a ladder to try and get him down, but it fell 5 stories short of the 55-story building.  She ran into the building and a few police officers tried to stop her.  

"Get the fuck off me, that's my boyfriend up there!"  She screamed still trying to break free.  

"Yeah right Miss." On officer shot back.  "McLean's girlfriend is dead.  That's why he's doing a free fall of this building."

"Don't you think there's a doughnut around here call your name!" Vykki said as she finally broke free of their grasp and headed toward the elevator.  

"Look Vykki's here!" Nick yelled when he saw her step out of the elevator.

"Thank God Vykki, you gotta talk some sense into him." Kevin said

"I'll try." Vykki replied walking up to the ledge right next to AJ.  "Hey you, what are you doing up here?" she said, not knowing what else to say.

"What does it look like Vykki, I'm trying out for the Ringling Brothers Circus." AJ snapped at her.  "My girlfriend is dead, and yeah I'm rich and famous but that's nothing without someone to share it with. I don't have anything to live for."

"AJ live for me.  I need you, I, I love you.  Please just get off this damn ledge."

"I'm sorry Vykki, this is something I have to do." AJ replied.  With that, he jumped off the ledge.

Vykki dropped to her knees and rested her head on the ledge where AJ once stood.  She felt as if all the energy had been drained out of her body the minute that AJ's feet left the ledge.  All of a sudden, she heard clapping. She jumped up and looked at the rest of the guys.

"What the hell is going on, why are they clapping?" Vykki snapped.

"I don't know." Brian said.  "I think we need to find out."

They all crowded into the elevator and went to the ground floor.  There was a huge crowd around an ambulance.  Vykki and the guys pushed their way to the middle of the crowd.  

"Oh my God AJ!" Vykki screamed seeing that he was perfectly fine.  He was sitting in the ambulance with a few paramedics running around taking his blood pressure, his temperature and such.  She hopped into the ambulance and sat next to him.

"I'm sorry." AJ said when they took the oxygen mask off his face.

"You better be McLean! And now that I know you're not dead, I'm gonna kill you!"

"Whoa, hold on little lady." AJ said giving her a crooked smile and then kissing her.

"Mmm! I thought I'd never feel those lips again!"

"Don't worry about it, I'm not going anywhere.  Well not anytime soon.  I'll never leave you."

AJ and Vykki lay in his bed that night.  There was no rain, and the windows were wide open.  The light, cool Orlando breeze blew on them.  

"You know AJ, you never told me how you jumped without you know, going splat on the floor."

"It was pretty easy, I just jumped onto the ledge of the floor below and
climbed through the window." AJ replied.

"You'd better not try a stunt like that again, or I'll push you off myself." Vykki laughed.

Vykki curled up in AJ's arms and they both slowly drifted off to sleep.

"You need each other AJ." I'm glad you finally decided to listen to me.  I love you AJ, and you love me, and you love her.  Until we meet again."

AJ woke up from his dream and saw Vykki snuggled up close to him. He smiled, kissing Vykki on the forehead and falling back to sleep.
