Element Of Dark
Chapter Three

"Are you….?" Nick slowly approached her. She leaned over and pressed her hands together. Pale blue shadows danced back and forth in front of Nick and we stood transfixed. The only sound in the room was that of the smoky objects flowing with their delicate grace. Nick's eyes fixed on the tiny girl and Dream smiled sweetly. She was such a tiny thing, with a delicateness about her. Pure and innocent. A knock at the door brought us back to the real world with a jolt.

"Guys, are you coming?" It was AJ. His eyes fell over Dream. "Who's this?" Nicky spoke first.

"AJ, this is Dream." He paused. " She's going to be with us for awhile, ok?"

"Sure," he replied doubtedly. He faced Dream. "How old are you anyway, kid?"

                "I'm seventeen." AJ winced.

                "Sorry, it's just that.."

"Just that you thought I was younger," she interrupted. "Don't worry, I've heard it before."

"Well, you two better come. Krystal's already out there and we've got to be ready," AJ made a silly face and I smiled and gave him an equally silly face.

                "You're crazy," AJ chuckled.

"Don't leave. Please," Nicky begged of Dream sadly. Her blue eyes shone intensely and she kissed his cheek.

"I promise." And the next thing I knew we were in position for the show to begin. Dream was behind me. She was staring at something that wasn't there. I could hear the opening notes and took a nervous breath. Leighanne gave me an odd look and then spotted Dream. I could see jealousy in her eyes and a knot formed in my stomach. Kevin leaned over towards me.

"Feeling better?" I nodded and could feel my heart beat faster as we were raised onto the stage.

When the show ended we rushed onto the tour busses as fast as we could. Suprisingly enough, they let Dream on without any questions. Leighanne was still eyeing Dream suspiciously. Nicky was making funny faces and Dream was laughing happily. She looked so content. It was like she wasn't the same scared little girl I had met only hours before. I smiled but deep down something was hurting. I knew Dream was a good person and all but why did Nick need her? He seemed fine enough to me. Our Kaos could take anything. Or could he? I was starting to have my doubts and my stomach was uneasy again. Leighanne took my hand.

"You all right?" How is it everyone always knew how I was feeling?

"Yeah. Fine," I said, even though it wasn't true. I just kept staring at Dream and Nicky. I couldn't take my eyes off of them. Leighanne asked again.

"Are you sure?" I felt something snap and I stood up angrily.

"Damn it! Just leave me alone! I'm fine! Okay?" Leighanne stared at me in shock. I didn't care. I just wanted to get the hell out of that room. Something about it was driving me insane. I started to run through the small door that led to the beds but the bus took a sharp left turn and my body slammed against the wall. I screamed in pain as I slid on the floor. Nick ran to my side and helped me up. Dream strode over to me and took me by the arm. Silently, she helped me to one of the beds and pulled the covers tightly around me. I fought back the tears as they burned at my eyes. She kissed my forehead and the slowly tears ran down my cheeks. They were hot and stung my cheeks. I winced.

"Shh," she cooed soothingly. "Baby, shhh." At this I just cried harder. She stroked my cheek and smoothed down my hair. I sighed and drifted off. Dream did not leave my side all night. Not once.
