If
You Knew What I Knew:
Chapter 23
Brian
“Hey,” I stepped into the
dimly lit room.
“Hey,” Nick looked at me through half-open eyes.
He had tubes hooked up through his nose and IV’s were hooked up to both
arms.
I walked over and stood next to the bed.
I couldn’t say anything. I
just looked.
“They pumped my stomach.” Nick said, as an effort to
start a conversation. I just
nodded.
“Now I know how you felt when you had come to see me when I
had heart surgery. I feel so
helpless.”
“You helped me a lot, B-Rok.
I could hear you guys. When
I was in the basement, I heard voices and tons of footsteps.
I could see you but nothing registered.
When you started talking, I wanted to scream out to you for help.
I couldn’t do anything.” Nick stopped talking and looked at me.
“I owe you big time.”
We didn’t say anything for a second.
“Why did you guys think that I was murdered?”
“Well, that’s a long story that I’ll have to tell you
later. Right now, just focus on getting better.”
I smiled and turned to leave.
“Hey B-Rok!” I turned back.
“Bring me some comic books when you visit next time, will you?” He
smiled his Nick smile.
“Sure.” I laughed and shut the door behind me as I left.
I sighed a sigh of relief when I was walking back to the
waiting room. I knew that if Nick
was asking for comic books already, he’d be fine in no time!
