If
You Knew What I Knew:
Chapter 19
Howie
We all drove to the park in two cars, Kevin’s and
Brian’s.
“Howie, we’ll follow you until you’re almost at the
lake. Then we’ll hide behind some bushes of something and if you
get in trouble, we’ve got your back.” AJ said.
We did just as he said.
They walked with me until I was near the lake.
They each gave me encouragement.
“We’ve got your back, bro.”
“Don’t be scared, Howie.
You can do this.”
“Alright, D. Alright.”
Was all that Kevin said.
I gave one final look and made my way to the lake.
I could hear them make their way to the bushes.
I placed one foot in front of the other slowly, carefully, as if I were
to make one single slip up, I would fall off the cliff that I was teetering on
the edge of.
I made it to the lake. I
stood directly in front of it, looking into the depths of it.
This is where Polly Anna died.
The thought hit me so suddenly, it brought a new sense of pain into my
heart. I turned away from it, to
where I had my back to the lake.
I looked around. I didn’t
see anyone there except for the occasional jogger.
“Howie.” A voice said quietly behind me.
I turned around and nearly screamed.
“So glad you could make it.”
