Five
Men, A Kid, And A Baby
Story by Daisy
~~*Chapter Four*~~
“So we need to come up with a name soon because we’re sending the
photos off to be printed in the album cover tomorrow.” AJ listened intently to
the Boys’ publicist. He was about to make a name suggestion when he felt an
insistent tugging at his sleeve. He turned to find Lexy staring at him.
“What?” He whispered loudly. “I thought I told you to sit over
there and not bother us.”
“But I have to go to the bathroom!” She whispered back, her eyes
getting big.
AJ thought about it. They had never been faced with this problem before.
They had only been in the hotel room so it wasn’t like he needed to take her
to the bathroom. But now that they were in public…that’s another story. He
knew that she struggled to go by herself and didn’t want to have to deal with
it. He sighed, knowing that he couldn’t just let the girl pee all over
herself.
“Excuse me for a minute.” AJ stood up, grabbed Lexy’s hand, picked
up Ally and walked out the door. He searched the halls for the bathroom. When he
found them, he lingered outside for just a moment, debating. Should
I take them in the men’s bathroom? He thought. Or
should I go with them to the ladies bathroom? AJ smiled, knowing that if he
took them to the women’s restroom he might just have a little fun. He pushed
open the door and Lexy turned to look at him, shocked that a man could go in the
women’s bathroom.
He led her to a stall. “I’ll be right here,” he said, adjusting
Ally on his hip. Holding a baby was so not comfortable. His body was just not
made for it. He heard the flushing of a toilet and prepared to help Lexy wash
her hands. Instead, he watched as the Boys’ beautiful hairdresser stepped out
of one of the stalls. Her eyes met his and she stood still, shocked.
“What are you doing in here?” She asked him, looking around
nervously.
“Accompanying a little lady.” AJ said, just as Lexy stepped out of
the stall. She walked towards the sink and he turned on the water for her and
squirted soap in her hands.
“Who are these little lovelies?” She asked, staring motherly at the
two girls. She ran a hand through Lexy’s long, silky hair.
“These are…” AJ debated whether telling her that these two girls
that she so adoringly looked at were his daughters. He shook his head. “Hope,
I’d like you to meet Lexy and Ally.” He turned off Lexy’s water and
grabbed some paper towels for her, suddenly realizing that these two girls were
like chick magnets.
“They’re adorable!” She squealed. She held out a hand to Lexy.
“I’m Hope.” Lexy shook her hand and smiled, saying nothing. Something
clicked in AJ’s head. This girl could be just what he needed.
“Hey, Hope,” she looked away from Lexy and turned her attention to
him, playing with Ally’s chubby fingers. “I need to talk to you.” She
nodded. He led the girls back to the conference room and turned back to Hope who
had followed him.
“There’s something I didn’t tell you.” He said, starting to walk
down the long hallway.
“What’s that?” Hope asked, her voice light from the excitement of
meeting the two sweet girls.
“I didn’t know them until two days ago. They were left at my
doorstep.” Hope looked at him with disbelief written all over her face.
“Seriously! Their mom had written me a note saying that I was their last
hope.” He stopped walking and turned to Hope. “They’re…they’re
my…they’re my daughters.”
Hope stared at him silently for a moment, not willing to believe it.
“They’re yours? How?”
“I had a fling with this girl that I met after one of the concerts.
When we went back, same thing happened. The years that they were born match up
to the years when we played her town. I already checked on that.” They were
both silent for just a minute.
“AJ, what are you going to do with them while you’re on the road? You
can’t keep them.”
“I know.” AJ grabbed her hands. He had never been too close with his
hairdresser but he knew her well enough to be asking her the forthcoming favor.
“Hope, will you come with us and help me take care of them? I don’t know the
slightest thing about kids. Yesterday I almost fed Ally a hot dog but Lexy
stopped me and told me she could’ve choked on it. I don’t know what I’m
gonna do about the whole bathroom situation. I can’t keep going in with
them!”
He stared into Hope’s face, searching for a yes. “Well…”
“Oh, please Hope! Do this for me!”
“Alright, but not for you.” Hope smiled. “I’m doing it for the
girls.” AJ gave her a tight hug and ran back to the conference room.
