The crowd was wild. Blue and white pom poms were flaring around the air. The rustle of the stomping feet on the stands roared throughout the air. In the midst of it all stood Emily watching Justin. The announcer called out the player names and they ran out onto the field waving. Justin blew a special kiss out to Emily. Justin's stomache wasn't right. Must be nerves, he thought. This was it the final the game. The last game he would ever play. They had to win. The timer started as the first kick flew into the air. The wolves attacked the other team dominating their weak defense. Chris jumped at the Hawk player holding the ball. They both flew back onto the ground. The ball popped out into the air. Lance was quick to dive and catch it. They had caught the fumble and now the game was in their court.
"Huddle up!" Justin yelled as the guys gathered around him. He looked from each player to the other. He put his hand to his stomache.
"Justin you alright?" Lance asked putting his hand on his shoulder. Justin shook his head no. He quickly pulled off his helmet and blew chunks.
"UGh! That's nasty!" Chris cried backing away.
"We have to move, if we don't I'm gonna hurl." Joey said holding his breath.
A few moments later he too blew chunks. Justin shoved his helmet on.
"Alright everyone link we'll move on three." He said
"One two three." He said and they shuffled away from the puke.
Emily had clearly seen it all and so panicked. She jumped down the stands over to the fence that seperated the field from the crowd. She leaned onto it.
"Is he alright!" She yelled out.
"he's fine." Couch Vincent replied hoping that he was.
"Dude are you okay?" Lance asked
"yeah must be my fucking nerves." Justin said shaking his head. He felt much better now.
"Alright now that that's done. Can we run a play the time is running." Chris said
"Yeah Louie Louie left." Justin said
"Break!" They all clapped and dispersed to their positions.
Josh snapped the ball to Justin. It was unusual how they were cooperating but they both knew they needed eachother to win this. Justin took a few paces back and saw Jermaine open. He snapped the ball and it flew into the air. Jermaine snatched it and began to run. he had gained five more yards before being tackled,
"Alright first down, Carter I want you in the endzone." Justin said
"What? That's more then 60 feet you can't throw that far." Carter said
"Just be there." Justin said
The group broke and went to their spots. Justin had the ball in his hand. He clasped his hands over the laces and then cocked his arm up. Then with all his strength sent it soarin threw the air. The crowd was silent as they watched it cut through the air and land in Carter's waiting hands.
The crowd roared in approval. The game went on and by the third quarter the other team had caught up.
"What the fuck is going on? They're sacking me like all hell!" Justin cried in the huddle.
"Sorry." Lance said
"Just block."Justin said angrily
Couch Vincent called a time out. A minute was on the clock and the it was the fourth quarter.
"Play like there's no tomorrow. Play like Gods. Be heroes>" Vincent said.
IT was enough to motivate the guys toward making first down. 40 seconds left and they needed this goal to win.
In slow motion Josh snapped the ball back to Justin. Justin held the ball and the guys scattered outward. Lance dug his heels in the mud pushing back the other team member. Joey close lined two guys. Jermaine was out there but covered. The same for Carter. Justin searched for anyone else but it was only him. 40 yards away. he'd never really ran before. Without waiting his legs started to run. he cut through the offense and hopped over fallen players. He was five yards away when he caught sight of the other team gainging on him. He continued onward but the other guy was on him. Leaping forward his body was parrallel with the ground. In reaction the other team member jumped to and crashed into Justin. Their bodies fell to the floor. Justin was in immediate pain. Everyone stood silent as the referee came up to the them and looked down. He put his hands up signalling a goal. Chris jumped up on Lance and cried out in victory. Justin laid there half out of it. Had he scored? why was his side hurting so much. Emily jumped the fence immediately and ran across the field, inbetween the players and fell to her knees beside Justin. She pulled off his helmet.
"Did I score?" he asked
"Oh yeah big time." She smiled leaning down and kissing his lips. She reached down to help him up but he winced in pain.
"Justin I think you broke a rib." She said examining his side.
"Sure as hell feels like it." he winced
Teh otehr guys ran over crying out happily. Emily put her hands up warding them off.
"He's hurt." She said
"What?" Lance asked
"I think he broke his rib." She said
"Get the medics." Josh said looking down at his ex best friend. Justin looked up at him confused. Why had he just called for the medics when he tried to destroy what he had.
"Look Justin." Josh said kneeling down beside him and Emily. Justin groaned out in pain.
"I'm sorry for everything I did this year. I was just, I was just really jealous that you were a big shot. That you had everything. I'm sorry I let that come between us. I was stupid. I dunno if you could ever forgive me. If it makes you feel better I didn't sleep with Emily." He smiled
"Thanks!" She cried
"Yeah man I was wondering when you would come to your senses." Justin said clasping his hand.
Josh smiled back at him happily. He hadn't ruined everything.
"As for me, I just was an ass and gave you a hard time cuz I do that." Carter laughed
"I figured that." Justin laughed and then winced in pain.
"Hey after Justin comes out of the hospital I say party at my place!" Joey cried
"Hell yeah! Tell me there's gonna be some caramel hunnies up in the joint!" Jermaine smiled
"For you yeah." Joey laughed
"Okay here they come." Lance said signalling the medics to come over with a stretcher. They hoisted Justin up onto the stretcher. Justin clutched Emily's hand. He kissed it softly.
"You know what>" He said
"What?" She asked smiling at him.
"Varsity rules!" he said
She rolled her eyes and smiled leaning down and kissing him.
